292 to 350 1966 C10 Clutch questions
OK, so I'm really confused at this point. I was going to swap in a used 307 I had lying around, but changed my mind and went with a new 350 crate engine. I had purchased a complete clutch kit for a 71 C10 that the 307 was out of. I assumed that it would work fine with the 350. Here is my problem:
When I measure the thickness of the 3 pressure plates, they stack up like this: Factory 307 - shortest of all of them Factory 292 - thicker than the 307 but shorter than the new clutch New Replacement (71 C10 307 bent finger) - Fattest of all of them The new throwout bearing is the same height as the one out of the 307. The 292 throwout bearing is much taller. I am reusing the bell housing, fork, flywheel and linkage from the 292. Should I have purchased a clutch kit for a 1966 292 and just used that on the new crate motor? Or is there another clutch kit I should be using? Thanks! |

Re: 292 to 350 1966 C10 Clutch questions
Just use the TO bearing that came with the new clutch kit and it should all work out. All GEN I small blocks use the same basic flywheel aside from 2 different diameters. As long as you have the correct TO bearing for the particular pressure plate, you should be fine.
