Steering Column Bracket and Wire

Hey gang,

I have two questions as I reassemble my column/dash.

First are these brackets and the gap below the column correct? Seems off to me but I'm not sure how to correct it.

Second - the bundle of wires coming out of the column - there's 8 in the ribbon but i also have a tan/gray wire with a connector on the end. i *think* this goes on the back of the cluster but can anyone confirm?

Nobody?

I did find this pic that seems to have the same gap, if not a little smaller.

Re: Steering Column Bracket and Wire

To close the loop on my other question - the extra wire from the tilt column supplies power to the shift indicator. Non-tilts use the fiber optic cable.

On a normal wiring harness this would plug into the fuse panel. On my American Auto Wire harness I need to wire it into the cluster plug grey wire, doubled up with the stock grey dash lights wire.

Re: Steering Column Bracket and Wire

I took that bracket right off on mine because it looked like crap right from the factory.

Re: Steering Column Bracket and Wire

Interesting. And you have the U bolt in place holding the column to the dash?

Re: Steering Column Bracket and Wire

If you look at post #3 it looks like the bracket used to be up and covering everything. Somewhere along the way it got pulled down
