Bench seat guys

What are you using for a console? I've thought about building a permanent one but I'm unsure if I want to lose the ability to have 2 passengers. At the same time it would only be if both my daughters wanted to ride in it so it would rare. Anyway show your console ideas so I can steal one of them please.

Re: Bench seat guys

I built one out of plywood that would slip under the back of the seat to hold her in position. That was a temp measure to hold my big gulp as I drove. It could hold 3 can sized objects, and had a open box behind it which i put a shaving bag into. Which held items i took with me to every car. Since at that point I really didn't use my wallet.

I was going to go with buckets or a suspension bench seat back at that time. So I needed something then so I never took pics of it.

It was kind of crude, but could easily of been refined if I chose too. I made a box out of plywood to my specs. I screwed a 2x6 under it to keep it level instead of angling back. Off the back of the 2x6 I added another piece of plywood which would slip between the seat to hold it steady.

You could even build the box portion to fit your seat contours, and use the middle belt to hold it in position.

It's only wood. Not solent green.

Re: Bench seat guys

I'm using the "BC Cruiser" from cupholdersplus.com. As I recall, the price wasn't bad. My only complaint after daily driving for over a year is that the "chrome" around the cup holders didn't hold up for more than a couple months. It has a strap that goes around the seat bottom to hold it in place, but I rarely bother to use it.

I have the same one as rgunlock. I actually sent my leftover vinyl from my seat cover, and they made mine with it, so it matches my seat.

Re: Bench seat guys

Consider if you have a manual or auto. I keep a small two cup/small storage console on the seat. I tried one similar to Tina's, but a bit taller. Wasn't going to work because the stick shift would interfere.

Re: Bench seat guys

Thanks. It's an auto. I am a carpenter by trade so I can build anything, just looking for ideas. I'm still arguing with myself about doing buckets. Either way I'll need something and I've looked at those on the seat ones. Good to hear they work and don't just flop around.

Lol. The first bump I hit in my K20 would make me rethink cup holders... unless it was gyroscope stabilized.

Re: Bench seat guys

I've got a manual (NV4500) and can shift fine with my console although in fairness the stick is straight versus the original 4-speed stick. My ride is far from smooth, but you just get used to driving left handed while you hold your hand over the top of the beverage container which aint gonna be an open cup

Another BC Cruiser user. Like rgunlock, the chrome rings didn't last long, but other than that, I'm satisfied with it.

Back then we just held our beer between our legs

And bench seats can be quite convenient at times

Yeah, that used to work with an automatic, but I'm not bow-legged enough to operate brake and clutch pedals together with a beer between my legs

The ole Camouflage Sonic route 44 cup packed with ice around the can to make a small cooler...

Like when she gets tired and needs to lay down and relax?

Re: Bench seat guys

I think this was a custom CO thing but have seen 3-4 of these in the local junkyard obviously I bought one. I like the fact that the center section flips down to hold a pop and also some storage. It can also fold out of the way in case you have another passenger sitting in the middle. It is a buckench seat but is fairly comfortable. I wish the back rest had some different options on angles for seat but it does not. I had the seat reupholstered by some guy on craigslist and was not the best job as you can tell but still a good seat. I am going to have it redone with proper bench cushion.

Re: Bench seat guys

I had the idea to actually make a flip down armrest like brick fords had. idk how big of undertaking that would be to cut the frame and make a hinge insert like that. I don't currently have a square so it kinda just benching for now. still plan to get another soon.

I've got a spare bench seat. That might be a fun project to mess around with.

I figure its possible if you can weld the frames back up. just have to make a pivot for the center part you cut out and make it a arm rest.

Don't have a picture but going to Carlisle I used my Chipawa boot as a cup holder.
