Door adjustment

Ok my wife wants me to fix the passenger door, its driving her nuts!

When the door is closed its lined up perfect but you either have to slam it very hard or lift as you close it because its sagging a little. It has also remove paint from the sill and bottom of door. Do you think I just need new door pins or can I adjust it some how?

You may need both. Check to see how bad the pins are and replace if needed. From what you are showing I think the top hinge needs to go forward where it attaches to the pillar. Here is how I do a door. I remove the striker plate from the door jamb and that lets me close the door and see where its at with out the striker moving it. The based on what I see I make adjustments. If the door is low in the back the the top hinge moves forward. It is a pain to do with the fender on but you can remove the upper cowl to ad access to the hinge bolts. Ge the door where the body lines are good and it shuts well. Then put the striker back in and adjust it so the door latches smoothly.

I don't think I've ever had fun adjusting a door. But on these trucks removing the front fender makes it much easier.

Thanks, I think I'll order pins so I have them on hand before I start. I dont think the door needs much but its sagging in the back a little. I might even try moving that top hinge forward a little and see if that fixes it. When I adjust the top hinge do I only loosen those bolts or losen top and bottom then move top forward?

You should be able to tell if you need pins. With the door open a little lift up and push down. It should be tight. If there is any movement (other than from the suspension) replace the pins or hinge.

I'll check that thanks. I checked on rockauto and the pins are out of stock anyways so hopefully I dont need them.

I would only loosen the upper for a small adjustment. That keeps the door from dropping. If the door is really out you may have to do both. Keep in mind that this has a effect on the door gap all around the door. So take your time. You have to have good pins for this to work.

Your right. Take note people who are doing restoration work and the sorts, a good plan is to align doors BEFORE paint work. I like to remove the fender, then replace any worn hinge parts/striker, then align and when satisfied, mark with a sharp awl two places on where the hinge meets the door frame. Then disassemble to your hearts content knowing your reassembly will be smooth and straight forward.
