silly question
What side of the flexplate is the engine side and what side is the torque convertor side? Its a really good possibility that the transmission shop installed it wrong. I bought a new one and now Im mixed up on what side is what. I also noticed a ridge on one side and not the other is that for anything?
The ridge Im talking about is on the center of the flexplate where it sits on the crankshaft.

If you look at the flexplate the side that has the pressed out holes goes to the transmission to meet the converter feet.

The ridge on the center hole goes to the rear.

the ridge is on the same side that has the pushed out pads for the torque convertor. So that one be one for one side and one for the other. Ive heard that one way will sit the convertor back to much and will eat the front pump up. Its seems to me that it can go either way and thats what is making it so hard right now to figure out. Installed it but havent put the transmission in yet. I installed it with the pads pushed out where it will have the convertor sit back farther.

It IS a little discouraging how it will seemingly fit both ways.. Here I snapped a few pics of my flexplate for you, hopefully this will clear up any doubt.
Flexplate 1 Flexplate 2 Flexplate 3 also, there should be about 3/8" gap between the ring gear and the back of the engine block. Hope this helps mike |

Thank you very much for the pictures Mike This is the way that I have it currently installed. I have a real nice ring to the flexplate now. I read some where that if it doesnt ring like a bell but more of a thud that the flexplate is bad. My old one didnt thud but it didnt sound as crisp as this one. Thanks for all the help guys
BTW my old flexplate was 28 years old. I just wanted to be on the safe side of things. Im sure its seen alot of stress durning those 28 years.
