Stock driveshaft with big block?
I just got a 454 that I will be building soon for my 66. It wont be anything crazy, just a cam, flat top pistons, and maybe a high rise intake. My question is how much horsepower/torque will a stock 1/2 ton drive shaft take? It is a long bed so it also has the carrier bearing. Will all this be ok with a mild big block?

Re: Stock driveshaft with big block?
The driveshaft will be just fine as long as you have the HD driveshaft and carrier bearing. If you have the light duty version, it will likely eventually end up on the ground.

If you've got a 4 speed, don't pop the clutch in low DAMHIK!

Re: Stock driveshaft with big block?
Not sure which version of the carrier bearing I have. It hangs from the top and has two bolts that will allow it to be moved forward or backward. How do I tell if its the light or heavy duty driveshaft?
I have an automatic so popping the clutch isn't a problem.

Re: Stock driveshaft with big block?
I agree, you have the light duty version. It'll never hold up. If you want to convert to the HD version, I make the mounting bracket for the carrier bearing.
