Coil wiring
Okay guys, who has an original V8 with the stock wiring? I am having problems figuring out my coil setup. I have an original 327 with the original harness with deluxe gauges. I seem to be missing something on how the coil hooks up. I seem to only have the one side(yellow wire for +side of coil). What color goes on the neg side? Im thinking it was a green wire and also the condenser with a black pigtail that was also connected to a black wire from the orig distr. Im actually hooking up a Mallory Unilite distributor with a ballast resistor and I'm not understanding the Mallory wiring diagram. Maybe a fresh set of eyes on this will help. Hopefully someone has also used a Unilite? Thanks guys.

Re: Coil wiring
If you open up the wiring harness and follow the yellow wire you’ll find it’s spliced with a resistance wire. The yellow wire continues on down to the starter.
The other negative side wire is usually black and goes to the distributor. |

Re: Coil wiring
The yellow wire goes to the starter and supplies 12v to the coil + during cranking. There should be another power wire that goes to the coil + and only has 7 or 8v. Factory coils need a resistor wire or ballast resistor because constant 12v would burn up the coil. The black wire from the points goes to the - side of the coil. I could be wrong( and I usually am) but I think the green wire goes to the temp sender.

Re: Coil wiring
Ok yes on the green to temp sensor. 69 C10 LWB yes that other wire to the + side is also one I was thinking about, but not sure the color or where from. My 66 C20 292 has a yellow and some kind of small dia cloth wire both on the + side. I haven't tracked down where that cloth wire goes too.

Re: Coil wiring
That cloth wire is the resistance wire and goes to the junction block on the firewall.
