Just Finished my Wood Bed
Wood Bed Conversion Kit from Mar-K. The Wood is Black Walnut with one coat of Walnut Stain, followed by 4 coats of Helmsman Outdoor Clear Gloss Polyurethane. Sanded to 220 grit prior to stain, sanded lightly to 220 between poly coats 1 and 2 and coats 2 and 3, then sanded to 400 grit between coats 3 and 4. Opted for the Polished stainless bolts and metal strips between the wood. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Re: Just Finished my Wood Bed
That is some serious attention to detail...SUPER NICE!!!
I'm really digging the light reflections on the head panel from the skid strips. Those will look incredable at indoor shows with all the bright lights.

Re: Just Finished my Wood Bed
The dark wood is always nicer against a color like yellow. Man, that's nice. I've finished a bunch of walnut as a younger man and it takes work but is worth it.

The filler was between the bed strips on my truck with the body tank.

Re: Just Finished my Wood Bed
It looks great but......... you gotta use a spar varnish for the clear if u want it to last. It's marine grade and has much more uv rays protection. Found mine on ebay. Expensive at approx. $33 a quart but will last much longer. That clear you used is "harry homeowner" grade.
