GMC dash one off billet insert

There are a handful of companies building replacement dash inserts for the GMC's and dozens for the Chevy's. Problem is none of them are set up to allow us to use the Oversize Tach and Speedometers from Auto Meter and that is what we wanted to use. So we own a Mill, and 30 Lbs. of 6061 Aluminum was just sitting there so we solved our problem the old fashioned way and carved one out ourselves.

We also eliminated the headlight/wiper, choke and ignition spots to allow us to relocate or eliminate them entirely as we choose.

We also slanted the instrument angle back so they point at the drivers eyes and not the dri9vers chest. A subtle but important improvement.

Robert, you have mad skills.
Do you have a CAD program for this dash insert?
Pretty awesome tools and know how.

No CAD, sorry. My mill is manual and so is my knowledge (sadly) so it is strictly old school analog with tedious slow processes.

Manual lay outs make me use tools like these.

My layout surface plate and height gauge keeps me honest

Re: GMC dash one off billet insert

Wow more talent to you then doing it the manual way.
This stuff is just magic to me, seeing this really brings the craft to these old trucks.

Nicely done! I used to design tools at work and have them made at a machine shop, but they do it CNC.
