Driveshaft question....
So I'm putting a 5.3/4L80E in a 70 C10 Long bed. Planning on going from the 2 piece to the 1 piece driveshaft. Truck is dropped 3 in front 5 in rear so i installed the CPP lowered cross-member which has a 4-1/2 inch opening for the driveshaft. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas to watch for?

Re: Driveshaft question....
Just went from a 2-piece to a 1 on a LWB '64.
FWIW, I had to remove this bracket that the carrier bracket bolts to in order to install the 1 piece: [can't upload a photo. get a security token error, but here's one]:

Re: Driveshaft question....
When I bought my 4l80 for my '86 long bed with an LQ4 the guy through the driveshaft in with it.
It was from a van and it turned out to be the perfect length. It is aluminum and pretty fat too. |

Re: Driveshaft question....
I went to my local wrecker and searched the driveshaft rack. Got a steel one from a 2002 F150 (139"wb ext cab short box). The front of the driveshaft takes the same u joint as the 4l60e slip yoke I bought. At the back I cut the tube off and had a 3 1/2" weld yoke (Spicer 2-28-397) put on to mate with my 12 bolt. It was JUST long enough for my swb 65.

Re: Driveshaft question....
Thanks Guys i was actually able to get Action Machine in Indiana build me a 3.5 inch Aluminium for 460 shipped to the house. I also found that I have the 1350 series yokes which are stronger. But still may need to do some work to the CCP Lowering cross-member since the side to side clearance is only 4.5"...
