Disc brake swap wheel spacers
I had heard that you could get away with using the stock 6 lug wheels on a disc brake swap with a 5/16 wheel spacer. If anyone has done this let me know. I would like to use the original wheels on my 65 GMC c1000. I am going to use the brother trucks swap kit.

I just finished this upgrade and used hub centric wheel spacers for the front.
I sent a few messages to theastronaut, he said he's been using regular wheel spacers for a while including on some of his other vehicles which he puts through their paces. I've previously used wheel spacers on Jeeps in order to get the clearance and stance correct, including on one build that was rocking 40" Mickey Thompson mud terrain tires, each weighing in at about 90lbs iirc plus the weight of the wheel. HOWEVER, they have always been hub-centric wheel spacers. After much research then, that was the only safe way to effectively push out a tire without buying new wheels. Fast forward to this c10 build, I almost bought a set of new wheels but really want to wait until the next phase of the build. I looked and had a hard time finding hub centric wheel spacers specifically for our disc brake upgrade until it dawned on me. I measured the hub on the rotors that was sitting a few feet away from me and they are the exact same size as newer silverados. Looked around for silverado hub centric spacers and found a ton! Now the challenge became finding 1.5" spacers, not the 2" that everyone sells. (I read that 2" could be too much if you're doing drop spindles and drop springs because you start running into the fender. The idea is for the wheel spacer to give you room to clear the caliper, but not to push out the tire so much that it then runs into the fender) That proved to be difficult until I finally found a set: https://www.americantrucks.com/mammo...s-s113042.html I have installed them and can assure you, the stock 15" steelies fit and I have no rubbing at all. I have the newer 2.5" CPP mod drop spindles and 2" drop springs up front.

Thank you for the link. This helps me out tremendously. What era of newer Silverado did you use when ordering? Or does it matter?

One more thing, or two.
1. The description mentions 1.5" wheel spacers even though the "Features" below say 2" - Don't worry, I've called about this and they did confirm it was 1.5" before I ordered. I also measured again when I got them in the mail and sure enough they are 1.5" and everything clears. 2. Because they're for the newer silverados, the instructions state to torque to 140 ft lbs. Don't. Torque to the 95 ft lbs that our 60-66 C10 Shop Manual states. Do however use the supplied loc-tite on the lug nuts that secure the hub-centric wheel spacer onto your rotors studs.

I checked that site and they are out of stock. I called and said it would be out until August 6th. I found a set from another site. Would these work for the 65 truck, they are designed for 77-87 Silverado/Sierra 1500s
https://www.roughcountry.com/wheel-spacers-10086.html I assume they would work because 60-70 guys use 73-87 1500 4x4 wheels on their disc brake swaps because they will cover a caliper, so the bolt pattern and spacing should be the same. Thanks |
