Flexplate spacer 4l80e

I purchased am GM Flexplate (19260102) and spacer (12563532) and Everything I read and all the pictures I’ve seen suggested that the spacer is installed after the flexplate but when I did so, the flywheel was rubbing on the rear main cover. Therefore I installed the spacer first. Is this correct?
