Low Fuel Pressure Question

I have my truck at the shop (65 with 05 5.3 and 4l60e). They are hooking up all the BP harness and attempting to get it running. It has a Boyd’s tank with the Aeromotive 340 pump. This thing sat for 5 yrs and when they tried to start it the pump wouldn’t work. I got a new $130 pump and now they say it just comes out at low pressure. It has the Vette fuel filter/regulator combo. My question is if that filter saT for 5 years and had fuel in it would it go bad? I’m thinking that’s the problem but hate to throw another $60 just to guess. Has anyone had any problems with this set up and is there something better?

if that filter sat with gas in it for 5yrs id toss it...have they hooked a pressure gauge to the fuel rails and checked the fuel pressure or are they assuming? and if they did check the fuel pressure with a gauge , how much does it show?.. also if the engine has sat that long youll probably want to clean the injectors
also how is the vette filter/reg hooked up..inlet/outlet/return lines...ive seen them installed wrong many times

Thanks for the reply. They told me it was hooked up wrong but I don’t think that’s possible is it since it is 3/8 and 5/16?
They said with the new pump they took the line off after the filter and it just came out like a garden hose. The truck was run on the frame prior to me buying it so it’s most likely the filter I’m guessing. The guy that was building it passed away shortly after putting the cab and bed back on

Most of the time when the filter/reg is plumbed up wrong is from the getgo...installer just hooks it up wrong...
make sure it's like this drawing...
From the pump is the offset fitting...the bypass back to the tank is the center fitting..the other end to the fuel rail..

And taking the line loose and letting a garden hose stream of gas pump out is just asking for a fire...
I'd have showed my tail if they did mine that way..and told me about it later
They need a pressure gauge hooked to the Schrader valve...that's the only way you'll know what you have..

I would get a fuel injection pressure gauge and check it myself. I just bought one and they are inexpensive. You should check it with key on/off. Cycle it a couple times. Then check it when running. I've heard of guys having good fuel pressure at the rails with just key on, but when running it drops way down, which is usually an indication of bad fuel pump.
