Larger oil filter causes lower oil pressure
When I changed the oil this last time I went with the larger of the two oil filters acdelco recommends for my 2002 5.3. I thought bigger equals better.
Well I noticed a drop in oil pressure right after the oil change. At idle 550 rpm and operating temp it was less than 20 psi on the mechanical gauge. Once I replaced it with the shorter oil filter oil pressure jumped back to 30 psi at idle and operating temp. Y’all probably know this but I thought I’d share my experience anyway just in case. I thought I had messed something up. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Larger oil filter causes lower oil pressure
What filter did you go from and then to? I dont run AC Delco filters anymore due to lack of oil pressure and the switch to "e" core design. I use a Wix or Fram Ultra.

Re: Larger oil filter causes lower oil pressure
Pf61 is the larger filter
Pf46 is the smaller one The smaller filter installed now does have the e at the end. Not sure of the larger one. I’d have to look at it. Posted via Mobile Device |
