66 C10 factory temp gauge and a Temp Sending Unit on a vortec L31. Anyone done it?
After recommendations from others I checked with the site member A1971Blazer about some help with a temp sending unit that will fit the block of an L31 Vortec and he uses the AcDelco G1852 part and has had it work for 67-72 but wasnt positive it would work on a 66 temp gauge. Ive got the American Autowire kit to update my 66 with and spoke with them and was told as long as the specs were 620 ohms for cold to 96 ohms to hot that it would work fine. Ive contacted AC Delco and havent heard yet on what the specs are. Anyone had this done for a 66 with an L31 and had it work ok?

The correct sending unit from Lectric Limited. https://www.lectriclimited.com/elect...ng-unit-110070 Part # 01513321 There are many GM sending units that look similar but have different ohm readings. Thanks Rocknrod, I mistakenly (frantically) posted 2 threads today on temp units. Cwcarpenter98 also mentioned the lectric limited part so that is what I am going to get. I have plugged off a 1/2 npt port in the new edelbrock intake I have and reconsidering taking the lectric limited unit and installing it there instead of having to deal with the block. Does it read that differently in the manifold vs block? Would I be making a mistake by not having it in the block?
Also thanks for the other two links you sent. Ray Mcavoy helped me out a great deal when I was trying to test the existing gauges I had in my cluster and he brought up the ammeter issue and I switched it out with the voltmeter instead. Im nearly done with the cluster, just need to add the tach and vacuum. |

I wouldn't think there would be too much of a difference. If it runs hot, it will show in both places
