FNG from Oakland
Hey there, finally got past the roadblock and able to post!
Join Date: 03-18-2021. Had ZERO access until I paid for an account today? Not a great start but there seems to be much good info here so I wanted in. I recently picked up a ratty old 66 Chevy Panel, been wanting one of these forever...my Toyota Tacoma 4x4 was stolen end of Feb and I needed a truck (you know how that goes) so started looking for a replacement pickup, looking at C10s, square bodies, etc...and then ran across this 66 Panel 10 miles from my work. She starts right up, drives well and stops (mostly), so I’m pretty happy with that as a starting point! Has a 230 straight 6 coupled to a 350 Turbo Hydromatic and a funky B&M Slapstick shifter (wouldn’t have been my choice, but it works for now.) She’s a pretty cold blooded but runs strong once warmed up. It’s a Flintsone mobile, I have a good view of the road...but I’m ok with welding in more steel where needed. I was referred here by my pal Farmer Rob...don’t hold that against me. Last edited by dweikum; 04-05-2021 at 03:44 PM. |

Re: FNG from Oakland
Thanks guys! Appreciate the good words.
The old girl is going to get some loving for sure. Tinkering on her now while I'm at work, trying to dial in what I can...I got her running well, I'm cleaning up some of the spaghetti wiring, replaced the headlight switch so all the lights can work properly, replaced the headlight adjusters so I can now see down the road, added a couple anti-theft tricks. Now I have to move the stinking Slap-Shifter, it's just too short to be where the PO installed it. Then there are the bigger things, like high-back seats and real Seatbelts! Disc Brakes to reduce the [OH S#IT!] moments...followed by a set of Webers and headers so I don't get cut off by the Raptors on the way to work! And then there's that whole Undertaker look...may need to add some flames up front for the short term...Yea, this is going to be FUN! |
