Cab ID

I have a 60-63 cab, but the tag may not have come on it originally.
I know the 63 body mounts are a little more narrow, would anyone have a measurement?
Are there differences from 60-62
Vin stamped anywhere?
Thanks

Re: Cab ID

I've got the tag info, says 63, but I'm not sure if anything has been swapped out. It's sitting on an earlier frame, and the front cab mounting bolts are using the original holes

We can't tell without pics of the frame, the cab and the mounts?

Re: Cab ID

I can only get to the top of the cab mount, and you can see the bolt head is in it's original hole.
The vin tag is 63. The frame is torsion bar. I'm hoping the mounting brackets on the frame have been altered, and this is actually a 63 cab. That's why I was hoping to get a measurement between front mounting bolts, since I've read about the difference in the front cab mount locations.
I don't want to sink any dollars in the truck if something is maybe askew.

Re: Cab ID

Torsion bar suspension on these trucks was from 60-62. Now you need to read the link where I posted (above) where's my VIN and find it on your frame.

Re: Cab ID

You should be able to get a picture from underneath. But looking at where your front cab Mount is on your floorboard it appears it's mounted to a 63-66 frame. But if you want a definite answer we're going to need a picture of the frame from the underside where it mounts to the cab.

Re: Cab ID

But then again, if you take a look at the thread that Rocknrod recommended, you'll see where to look for the VIN on the cab and on the frame to see if they match.

Re: Cab ID

You think the mounts (from inside the cab) appear to be 63-66?
That's my only question.
I have the vin location, vin info, (although tucked into a corner and cannot access at the moment) that's not my question. It's a 63 VIN.
It is sitting on a 60-62 frame.
I can't get under it at the moment to see the cab mounting, but was hoping to get the measurement between mounting holes/bolt heads for the front cab mounts as this would tell me if it is a 63 cab mounted to a earlier frame, or an earlier cab that maybe has the vin from another vehicle.
I'm just about to start this project and don't want to invest anything in it if somewhere along the line it was changed.

Re: Cab ID

If there was a hidden vin like the passenger cars, that would help me.

Re: Cab ID

If it's a chevy frame, there should be a vin stamped into the frame on the driver's side by the engine mount. Getting you a measurement isn't going to verify it's not on a 60-62 frame. Find your VIN on the cab. Check to see what year it is. Check the VIN on the frame and see if it matches the one on the cab. Or, take us a picture of the frame from anywhere, and if it's an x frame, it's a 60-62 frame.
Having matching VIN's will answer if the frame is original to the cab. Otherwise, we need a picture of the frame.

You would help us help you if youd start posting pictures. Other than that its all a guess.

My 65 is on a 62 frame.
My floor mat is all buttoned down, but I'll try to get a measurement of it also. Just for a little more assurance for you.

I just feel like you are trying to answer the wrong question and giving the op grief about it.

Re: Cab ID

I think Rocknrod thought it would be better for the OP to just look at the VIN.
I mean, the OP knew it was a 60-63 cab, but wanted to verify it was a 63 by the cab mounts rather than by looking at the VIN.

Aren't the 60-62 front cab mounts different than the 63?

If I was suspicious of someone tampering with the vin (as all the clues in his post suggest) I would try to do the same....try to find a way to verify it is what it’s suppose to be.

Re: Cab ID

Reading your post again, it appears you know that it's a 63 cab and a 60-62 frame. Is that correct?
From the picture of the floorboard it appears you are mounted in the original 63-66 location of the cab.

I don't care about the frame. It's 60-62, I'm sure
The cab is 60-63, I'm sure
I only care if the cab is a 63 or if it is earlier.
Aren't the 60-62 front cab mounts different than the 63?

Yes, the front cab mounts for the 63-66 are closer to the frame. The 60-62 are out a little further from the frame. Your's look to be in the correct location for a 63-66 cab.
.
It sure adds a lot of confusion that gm used the wrap around window cabs from 60-63, and the ladder frames from 63-66.
Let me go check my 66 cab. I'll get you a measurement from the inside of the door to the cab mount.
