72 Field Find Jimmy

Picked up a 1972 GMC Jimmy out of a field a little bit ago and figured I'd catalogue my progress on here and get some pointers and ideas if I need them. This is my first Jimmy so I don't too much about the different tops or options they came with. I know this one has a single top and has some options like a grill guard and it has some skid plates on the bottom as well.

We took it out of the field after more than 10 years of sitting after the fuel pump went out. Engine in it was rebuilt a with mild cam but will be pulled out at somepoint to be cleaned and inspected. Once it was home we put fuel down the carb and it fired right up like it only sat a couple days.

Re: 72 Field Find Jimmy

I ended up taking the turbine wheels off for now and went with stock looking set of wheels and tires I got for cheap. As far as rust goes the only bad spots are the rockers and behind the passenger door. Frame is solid. The top definitely needs some help it looks like they mounted a spotlight or roof rack on top then changed their mind later so needs some holes patched.

Re: 72 Field Find Jimmy

New gas tank and fuel pump are on the way so then I can get it running on it's own finally. Going to take out the interior next week and see what's under the carpet. I am not sure yet if I want to get the seats reupholstered or sell them and pick up some corbeau bucket seats or something like them. Main goal is to be able to get it running and driving.

Great find! Looks like a great starting point!

What are your plans for the turbine wheels? I'm a big fan of those and would be interested in buying them if available.

Keep the pics coming!

Paul

I actually sold them already. I needed 16's to clear the disc brakes. Sorry

That Jimmy is 1 of a kind I like the Factory mistake on the wheelbase 000.0 GM did make mistakes on these trucks It just happens I had a 69 with headliner on the option list and it came without it no holes in the cab roof fot the trim Dealer ran screws up in trim to hold it up . I bought truck from orignal owner in 1984

Most gmc SPID labels had the 000.0 wheel base listed like that. Not sure why. As far as the headliner, i dont think it had its own option. Some early 69s came without some things.
