1965 c10 engine swap mate to 3 spd
Hello,
1965 c10 pickup stepside Engine swap from the 230 to a 1977 c10 250 Original 65 3 spd 3 on tree manual tranny Engine is in and running. Finished restore on 65 tranny and placing bell housing on installed engine it doesn’t seem to fit. The bolt holes all line up but it seems like the starter is in the way. Do I need to remove the starter and then reinstall once the bell housing is on? Or will this swap not work with the 1977 250 and the 65 3 spd. Only other option would be to cut the bellhops if to fit but don’t want to make a dumb mistake before I asked the group. Thanks |

Are you trying to use the 77 starter (that bolts to the engine block) with the 65 bellhousing? If so, I don't think that combination will work together. Instead, you need to use a starter that bolts up to the bellhousing (like the original 65 starter did).

Ok thanks, I figured it was something simple. Luckily I still have the 65 starter laying around the garage somewhere I’ll try that combination

Pretty sure if you use a block mount starter with a cast iron nose, it will work. The aluminum noses are too big.
