New Battery Tray

I need to replace the battery tray in my C10. I ordered one from CJ Pony Parts and the fitment is not the best. (You can see the misalignment of holes on the new tray.) Before I get out the file and start opening up holes, does any one have a supplier that has a tray that fits with no muss and fuss.

Thanks, Cris

Re: New Battery Tray

You could go to Aspen in AZ and get a good used one, have it blasted and powder coated.
I used one from LMC had to use a heel bar to get it to fit in the core support before the front end was assembled.

Re: New Battery Tray

Thanks guys. A little disappointing that the quality control is so bad. I almost need to go their warehouse and hand select a "good" one.

Not sure if I am going to send this back or deal with it.

Re: New Battery Tray

I ordered one from Classic Parts of America that bolted up to my 60 without any issues, but the truck itself is a bit loose

Re: New Battery Tray

Guys I ordered a battery box from Classic Parts just to see if there was a difference between it and the one from CJ Pony Parts. And yes, the Classic Parts box is a better fit.

The two are also clearly made by different manufacturers. The Classic Parts battery box is much closer to the original box, using spot welds, and differing metal thicknesses for the different pieces making up the box. The CJ Pony parts box is stitch welded and looks like it uses a single gauge metal for all the pieces. The CJ Pony Parts box did seem to have a more durable paint than the Classic Parts box.

I still had to tweak the Classic Parts box to get it to fit, but no files were involved. Despite me trying to aggressively coax the metal to fit, the CJ Pony Parts box would have required me to hog out holes on my C10 to fit. It is pretty obvious there is an issue just from a casual look a the box.

Can't believe these guys don't have a simple jig to quality check these at the factory.

Another source of irritation from CJ Pony Parts is I ordered the "stainless" hold down kit. Well.....it's not stainless. Looks to be bright zinc plated. I wrote them and all they had to say is "our supplier says its stainless".

I'll throw the CJ Pony Parts battery box into the trash. Shipping it back would eat up most of the cost of the battery box.

Glad you found a good one. Props to Classic Parts. I've been happy with them too.

Re: New Battery Tray

LMC tray did not light up perfect on mine, but I use one of the holes at a batttery hold down on radiator core side anyway. All the other lines lined up fine witht he inner fender and core support.

Ordered the tray and hold down brackets from LMC.
