Brilliant! I'm rocking the exact same setup (except for 4X4). Very excited for first startup...keep it up!

Re: First start up l96 with 6l90

Are you using the factory torque converter? I've heard the TC is the weak link in those transmissions, and that an improved aftermarket unit is highly recommended.

yeah, i have not touched it. the motor and trans have 9k miles on them so i was going to leave everything alone. though i had not heard of the TC issue.

Contact Scotty Baccus at Tejas Steelworks(facebook works well, but I'm sure you can contact him otherwise). They make the Tejas mounts for shoving LS engines into squarebody trucks. Scotty has quite a bit of experience with the 6L80 and 6L90 transmissions with the various swaps he's done for himself and others. Ask him if he recommends an aftermarket converter. I would trust his advice; he shoots pretty straight.

I haven't personally looked into it much myself. I specifically chose a nv4500 over a 6L80e, in case that shows you where my allegiance lies!

Re: First start up l96 with 6l90

Did you use the E78 ECU and wiring harness that came with the motor? I have the same setup and was thinking about going with a PSI ECU and harness.

Love the valve covers, What brand are they?

Re: First start up l96 with 6l90

after lots of debate and talking with knowledgeable people i did not use the 78. there was no advantage to doing so, and lots of downsides. so i had speartech make me a harness with the 38.
