Were all 73-87 wired for a cigar lighter?

My 78 did not have the RPO option for a cigar lighter and it has the metal delete where the lighter would go. On a 78 I know the wire is orange that goes to the lighter. To my surprise there is a orange wire that terminates right behind were the lighter would go. Were these wire for a cigar lighter even tho it was a delete?

Same for my 78. I went ahead and installed an aftermarket lighter.

Is it just one wire ( the orange for positive) to hookup? Is the ground chassis thru the body of the cigar lighter?

Yes, just the orange wire to the terminal on the back of the lighter. Very easy hook-up.

lab. 84 Sierra 2500 didnt come with a cigar lighter, OR some light. I got a factory cigar lighter socket from an 85, and put it in. Works just fine. As far as my dome light. Battery operated LED magnetic light works for me🤣

I mostly want to use the cigar lighter outlet to power a usb adapter to charge my phone. Do you think the wiring on these old squarebodies is up to the task?

If the wire was never used it used be like a new for 1978 wire. If I remember right the lighter has power all the time when plugged in so do not forget things plugged in the can't be turn off unplug be for you leave the truck for safety reasons.
Or the truck batt going week or dead. Power will go up a little when charging under rpm with socket of lower drawing Accessories (there is no safety soft ware on that socket other then the 30AMP fuse. So if you have a all most dead phone I would charge only 20 -30 min at a time for batt heat on the phone batt, to much heat on the batt shorten on lots off charges your Batt life span. To hot of a phone batt does not hold the charge as long. Or get a auto sensing Dc socket adapter with chip board regulate power from the socket for soft wear phones pc Tablets.
