Rim question

I have found a set of 17x9 with -8 offset rims for a song and dance. Which works out to 4.75" of backspacing.

The tires I want to run are 245/65r17 which are 29.5" on a 7 inch rim. So maybe 28-28.5 on a 9 inch rim.

My C10 has 30x9.5r15 on 7 inch rims with about 2.5 inches of room left till the tires hit the fender lips level.

Would the front tires clear with a 2" drop, and allow decent suspension travel or should I keep on looking?

Can’t answer your question but gotta say tires don’t change height with different rim widths.

Yes they will. Depending on how different the rims are, and tire construction. Some tires are more prone to changes due to the sidewall construction.

Carcraft did a article where they changed tire height on 30" slicks by going from a 7" to a 10" rim by 2 inches.

The stanced kids get a big difference, but obviously they are on the extreme edge.

4x4 guys often run a narrow rim to increase rim hold or what ever it is called when aired down. It has the effect of squeezing the tire taller..

This article says tire width is changed by approximately 2/10" for every 1/2" change to wheel width.

It would make sense that the tire would get taller as the wheel pinches it narrower. The material has to go somewhere.
