Need help with e brake and other items 63 gmc
I currently have the driveline mounted drum e brake on an SM420. I’d like to swap drivetrains and would like to have an more regular cable system for the rear drums. This truck is a 3/4 ton and has what appears to be a full floating D44? I see no provisions in the backing plates for cables so is this even possible?
Secondly I’d like get rid of the dual clutch/slave cylinder in order to add a dual reservoir brake MC Third, and somewhat related to the previous, I have a gmc bellhousing with a rh fork and slave cylinder. If I swap to a Chevy LH can I still use the hydraulic clutch components? |

Re: Need help with e brake and other items 63 gmc
I would look for a '64-'66 GMC 3/4 ton in a wrecking yard for all necessary parts. '63 last year for the hydraulic clutch and parking brake drum, '64 -66 GMC 3/4 tons used the mechanical clutch and regular parking brake lever under dash with cables to the rear axle. GMC used the Dana 60 rear axle '60-'66.

Re: Need help with e brake and other items 63 gmc
So is there any way to add parking brakes to my existing axle or do I need a whole new one? I was wondering if it was possible to change the backing plates.

If it looks like there's 4 bolts holding the backing plate to an axle flange, it's probably removable.
Depending on how the backing plate looks like on the inside, you might just be able to drill a hole in the backing plate for the cable to come through and then add the e brake specific hardware. That seems to make sense to me, but I haven't worked on a Dana 60 before
