Went looking for just the right tree today
I have a portables band saw mill, so I can cut my own lumber, I was told there was a large walnut tree I could have. I want to make the wood flooring for my 54 chevy. Drove the 30 miles down to Mill-A Washington and the tree was already gone. I have plenty of Doug Fir, White Fir and pine, but wanted something different.

Re: Went looking for just the right tree today
Now you have me looking for a log that the lumber for two truck beds can be cut out of.
They cut down those big trees across the road from the Branding Iron in Toppenish a few weeks ago and some nice looking wood came out of them but I don't know what kind. at the length of the logs they were loading I'd say they were sold to someone doing live edge lumber.

If you find the right tree I will come get it, and cut enough lumber for both of us |

If I find it I'll haul it to you. I missed out on one a while back. The people had two about 8 ft long.

Re: Went looking for just the right tree today
We have to find a log first, this area is full of guys with band saw saw mills selling live edge slabs for people too make stuff out of and they grab up a lot of nice hardwood logs.
Where Hogfarm is you can do pretty good cutting logs into lumber for someone on the half. They bring you a log, he cuts it into lumber and they keep half and he keeps half to sell. People have pine or fir trees on their land that they can cut and carry to someone with a small mill who can turn it into lumber. Or they just pay you to do it.

Mr48chevy
you are correct, I could cut fir and pine all day, but that was not my goal when I bought the mill. I only use it to cut lumber for myself and close, neighbors/friends. I'm building another house. If you could find a big walnut tree that would be great. If need be a friend of mine has 160 acres covered in oak trees, he told me I could come take a few, If I do that I will cut some for you also. |

Re: Went looking for just the right tree today
found a walnut tree about 2 1/2 feet in diameter and a load of 8" branches about 15 feet long. Also found some Black Locust, 3foot diameter and 10 feet long. Plenty of wood for the bed of my truck
