Hotter makes it cooler
When I got my 66 c10 it was bone stock and the temp gage didn't work. When I cleaned and painted the motor I replaced the faulty sensor with a new one and I replaced the old crusty thermostat with what they had on hand, a 160°. I thought it might help it run cooler but now that the gage was working it always seemed to run hot. It never overheated but it would hit the H and with a laser thermometer on the water neck I knew it was running around 190° - 195°. I was told it's not so bad if it stays there but I still didn't like it. When I got it inspected I told the old guy who owned the shop what I did and he said put a 180° in it because the coolant is moving through the rad to fast. I heard that theory before but hearing it from him affirmed my actions. I got a 180° and voila it stays much cooler.

That's good, and your engine will thank you for it in the winter time with better heat and defrost.

Re: Hotter makes it cooler
That reminds me. I switched out the blower recently because the old one sounded like a coffee grinder and now the new one only has high. I'm hoping the contacts in the switch are to blame

Re: Hotter makes it cooler
Maybe that rehostat transducer gizmoid with the coils on it that lives in the metal heat/defrost diverter

Edit after reading further into the page you linked I wonder if the fan I got from LMC is just a single speed fan. If so they had no indication of such Last edited by Chevy nutcase; 09-16-2023 at 12:17 PM. |

Re: Hotter makes it cooler
Following the wires from the switch should lead you to it. Where that plug goes on your "in the cab pic" should be it. The little springs get hotter than blazes when they do their job so they put them in the path of the air flow. They are also very fragile.
