Blazer Color Confusion, Dark Blue vs. Hawaiian Blue, etc.
Hi all:
I'm probably an idiot here, but I'm a little confused about the paint color on my Blazer. It's a '72 with original paint. The color is listed on the glovebox, window sticker, and all the original paperwork as DARK BLUE. There is an original '72 Blazer brochure that came with the truck that has the colors listed on the back. They show a HAWAIIAN BLUE, but no DARK BLUE. The Hawaiian Blue looks to be my color. Then, to top it all off, when I go to the autocolor website, they don't show a HAWAIIAN BLUE or a DARK BLUE for '72. I'm totally confused now.

Did you check this link?
http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/...truck-pg01.jpg I got a 1972 truck color of Dark Blue--coded 523 2366 The 523 is the paint code you need for ordering PPG paint My 1970 Blazer is Dark Blue also 4508AA is the glove box option sheet code, and it ended up being PPG code 508 for the original paint color code I needed to get the paint. They will be able to help you at any automotive paint store. Here is pic of my glovebox option sheet. |

In '72 there were 2 non-metallic blues and they were very close. Hawaiian blue is the lighter shade and mariner blue (listed as dark blue on option sheet) is a little darker.

Thanks for the replies guys and girls. The confusing part for me is that on the original sales brochures and even the paint chips, mariner blue, or dark blue, looks like a navy blue to me. I mean really, really dark.
Diane, your website is awesome, by the way. Do your truck and Blazer, which both say dark blue, are they pretty close in color, even though one is a '70 and the other is a '72. Even though I initially thought my truck was Hawaiian blue, based mainly on the options list, it could pass for the color of your Blazer. I'm thinking is the mariner blue instead. Thanks all.

My '71 Jimmy was originally that horrible copper/bronze GMC color. A PO painted it a medium metallic blue. A touch up can from Checker auto matched and it was labeled "Maui Blue." Looks like process is black primer, followed by silver base coat and tranlucent blue top coat. I don't know if this color is period correct, but I like it.
