I know one of you out there will have a simple fix for this problem. My 78 Chev (350/350TH) leaks tranny fluid where the speedo cable goes into the trans. I replaced the O-ring but it didn't make much difference. Is there a particular procedure I should be following or better brand of 0-ring ????

I'm guessing you replaced the o ring on the sleeve. There is a seal on the speedo gear shaft too.

I was able to buy a whole new "bullet" with inner seal and outer o-ring for just a few dollars at a transmission supply place. That ought to fix your problem unless there is a rough spot on the gear or something that eats up seals.

I just went to the HELP section and bought an assorted O-ring pack. Put one in that fit the best and all fixed. Mine didn't have one at all in there somehow.

Guys..its not an o-ring....its a gasket that looks more like a top hat that has its top cut out. Its harder plastic than an o ring also. Like 2 bux and a pita to put in....

Here's the seal I'm talking about. This is what my 700R4 uses. I'm guessing a 350 uses something similar.

Oh my bad guys...on the speedo mike is correct... I was thinkin about the kickdown cable.

These are for my TH350C. They are resting on the receipt, so you can see how cheap they were ($5.90 for the pair). I'll install them one of these days.
