T-case swap?
i have a 1989 half ton suburban with a 241 t-case and i have been slowly( as money alowes wife kids bla bla bla ) building it up. it has stock running gear (10 bolt front and rear) 700r4 tranny tbi 350 . i also have a doner 1978 chev half ton truck. it has a 203 full time t-case . is my t-case strong enough to deal with the 14 bolt im putting in? so far its been fine (light wheeling in mostly mud). or is the 203 stronger?? the sub is also my daily driver and i've heard that a 203 isnt so good for a pavement pounder. i've also got automatic lockers on the burb, i am getting lazy and dont realy want to get rid of them but are they worth a hoot or are manuals the way to go???? thanks for your help!!!! brian770. lief@baysat.net 715-274-2234

The 203 is a full time case unless it has been converted for part-time operation. It really would not be worth the swap from the 241 to 203. Your 241 will be fine iregardless of what rear end you have, now go changing the power out of your motor or the size of your tires or have a reckless driving style then your whole drivetrain could need up-grading.
I personally don't like the auto hubs but with the manuals your know when they are locked in or free wheeling. The 203 is probably stronger (steel to aluminum) But it also has a chain the 241 has a lower ratio and if you perform routine maint on the 241 it will be fine. Also a 203 never came behind a 700R4 tranny so you would have to engineer or modify or purchase an adapter(if one is available).
