also how would i tell if my engine has 4-bolt mains before i rebuild it. and is there a real advantage to a 4-bolt over a 2?

I dont think you can know, till you pull the oil pan.

4 bolt over 2 bolt, -
for stock / standard type driving No need

Now if you were running high RPM's -Race type setup, you
would want a 4-bolt.

Also don't get caught up in all the hype over APR products
and other race type parts unless you do to plan to take
it to the limit.
