Lift Question

Hi guys, I am new to the board. I have a 72 Chevy 3/4ton with a 6 inch(I think) worn out lift. I bought the truck with intentions to repair parts of it, but I have decided to just replace the old lift with a new one. Question is, how big can I go? I'm considering a Skyjacker 8 inch (heard it rides better than Superlift). I want to put 38's on it. I don't know if a Skyjacker 8 inch would be big enough. I read that someone on this site was saying that the Superlift 10 and 12 inch lifts for 73 and up would work on a 72. Does anyone know

i have a 72 with the 8 inch skyjacker lift on it. im not gonna tell you it rides better as ive not experienced the other one, but for an 8 inch all spring lift its not so bad. i easily fit 39 inch tires on mine, so i imagine 38 would be just as easy. the 73 and up lifts won't work well because the front springs are about 2-3 inches longer eye to eye. they may be able to be rearched, but i would have a custom spring built. hope this helps

Steve 72,

I'm also running the Skyjacker Softride 8" lift and couldn't be happier with it. I can't say how the Superlift suspension rides as I've never ran one. You should be fine running a 38" tire with an 8" lift so long as you don't go too wide. I'm running 35" tires with my 8" lift and my tires will rub under certain flex and turning conditions. Here is a link to some pics of my truck that I recently posted.

ryanroo, That is pretty ironic that you saw that 72 in Auto Trader, because it is mine. My wife told me that I had to sell it, so I put it in the magazine. I have received tons of calls on it, but now I am not so sure that I can sell it. I have owned it for about a year and I love it. I am now starting to price out how much it would be for me to finish the project if I did keep it. She knows that I didn't really want to sell in the first place. Convincing her that it is cool is not easy, but I'm working on it.
