any ideas on weight of truck????

i got a g tech meter and need to know how much my truck weighs. it is an 87 swb, big block, 400 turbo trans, and dual tanks. anybody know?

I have an 86 GMC swb with a 350 small block, Turbo 400, and dual tanks.

Recently I weighed it at the drags with both tanks about 3/4 full and it weighed 4,250. These trucks are HEAVY.

hey thanks a ton. i think they will be about the same with a tankful or so in mine. the motor may weigh another 150 lbs. or so i would guess. i can`t wait to try this thing out.

Mine is 5500 lbs with two full tanks of fuel, myself, my brother, some sound equipment, and my tow strap kit...

C25 350 / TH400 / dual tanks / 14 bolt rear end with HD springs and leaves all around.

i say enter a weight in the Gtech, run it and if you dont like the horsepower reading, adjust the weight.. hmm only 375hp? that cant be right, lemme tag another 800lbs on there ....

that`s a lot of difference between 3650 and 5000. plumbcuts idea sounds good to me. i really just want 1/4 times mostly and that won`t matter on weight. the truck has a 273 gear (i believe). it will roll 130 on the interstate but it takes a minute to get there. is there anything in the vin to see what gear ratio it is?

Whoa, 2.73 rear with Turbo 400? That will not get it done in the 1/4 mile.

You would need a 700R4 trans., which has a very low 1 st. gear, or change the rear gears. I have a 3.73 rear with the Turbo 400 and am in the process of going to 4.10's.

Plus how tall are your tires? Mine are 28" tall, if you have a tall tire, 29,30 etc tall that will have the effect of hurting a low gear ratio.

Your combo is for Talladaga, not the 1/4 mile.

I cannot imagine I have 450 lbs. more. I have even removed the A/C, engine has alum. intake & heads, and alum. wheels, and a fiberglass hood.

Any idea?

My 86 4x4, with dual tanks, one full, one with fumes, about 600 lbs worth of people, and 33's weighed in at 5306 lbs.

Last time I weighed mine, it was 3960. I didn't have aluminum wheels, heads and other stuff then either. I imagine, it's probably in the 3850 range now. I need to get it weighed again.

A good place to weigh it is at a landfill.

I had mine weighed in jan '04 and it was 3780 but mine is a stepside and i have aluminum rim's and fiberglass hood and i wasn't in the truck and i had about a 1/2 tank of fuel.

I got it done at a flying J truck plaza for 7.50$ and the scales are certified & calibrated.

Note: When you weigh a truck you don't include yourself or the fuel these item's are not considered part of the operating weight so they should be deducted to get the actual weight of the truck.

Use 6.7 to 7.0 lb's per gallon for the fuel depending on what the temp is at the time.

But for what your trying to do you may want to add thoes items to get an accurate 1/4 mi time.

with my 84 lwb single almost empty 20 gallon tank, i tipped the scale at 3850. this was without the massive amounts of stereo stuff and a fairly stripped interior.
