Dana 44's Wanted...
I'm looking for Dana 44's...both front and rear.
This way I can easily convert to disc brakes on my '61 4x4. I need a front axle with open knuckles (of course), mainly for the conversion to discs. The rear on my truck, however, has quite a bit of slop in the pinion and would be easier, and cheaper, to just replace outright. So if anyone has a pair, or even just one of these axles in the Dallas area, please leave a PM or send an email. Thanks, Matt |

as far as i know, GM never used a 44 in the rear. you might want to look for a 10/12/14 bolt corprate axle. probably lots cheaper and definitely easier to get parts for.

thanks for the correction. A standard 12 bolt will do nicely for my application.

The 67 1/2 ton 4x4 had Dana 44's in the rear. At least some. I looked a t a67 GMV V6 short step SM420/Rockwell with 3.54 geared 44's in both ends about 15 years ago. It was a fire dept truck and all original. 25k miles.

dana 44 rearends appeared in '67 and '68 in 2- and 4wd trucks. my guess is they came predominately in GMCs. However, a 67-8 4x4 will have the same closed knuckles and drum brakes that you have now. I would swap both axles from a '73 up K/5 or K/10, as they are very common and parts are easy to get.
