A/C Conversion?
Do you reccommend a conversion to the new freon? I have the R-12, but I think it needs freon. The shop reccommends a conversion, they say it will save me in the long run. Does it work as good as the expensive R-12?
Thanks for the input.

The compressor in my '86 is getting a bit loud and I've got to figure out what to do about it. If I need a new compressor, I'll definitely do the conversion.
I did have a 1991 Ford Escort GT for a few years that I used as my sacrifice to the road salt gods. I had it converted to R134a. I seem to remeber the total cost was about $400. A new orifice tube was required. It cooled plenty well, although I had to have some seals replaced a time or two. But, that was poor Ford design, not an R134a problem. Good luck!

I was quoted $100/lb for the R-12, and I have a 5lb capacity. To convert over to the 134, I was quoted $170. I think I will go with the conversion, as the R-12 is only going to get more expensive (Thanks EPA).
I spent some time on the RUSH (WHEC-723) 93-94. How about you?

Nope, I'm a shallow-water guy, Auxiliary actually. I don't even do it for the money!
I did crew on regatta patrol last Sunday, though. They had the Chesapeake Bay Bridge swim. Boy, those swimmers are fast! The exciting part was when a go-fast blew through the closed zone a hundred yards behind the swimmers at full speed. He was so fast that the 41'-er and RIB couldn't even intercept much less chase him. They had to send the TV news chopper after him! We were just lucky no one got hurt...
