84 GMC Sierra 15 305-700R4 questions
Hi! Just bought this truck & Im dialing in the little things. It is a Gov't ordered fleet truck, has the 305, 700R4 set-up and unfrotunately the under dash computer for the emissions and the carb & distributor.
Anybody here have any knowledge dealing with these, getting more performance out of the 305 and still stay within the smog laws guidelines? Im in California, so Ill have to stay within the limits. I did look up cams, seems CompCams has a C.A.R.B cam, but I would like to get more out of the heads and intake for better all around performance. Any thoughts here...?? Thanx!

Being a gov't ordered truck, Im wondering if its affected by the same california emissions standards that the civilian trucks were?

OK, after just recently clearing smog inspection, this is what I was told: The Federal issued fleet 305 trucks are exempt on a failed check engine lite on the dash panel...Seems this was what was done, the lens is there, but NO opening at all for the light socket nor any wiring present. The smog on this Truck is as follows: Smog tubes on the drivers side and NONE! on the passenger's side! There is an O2 sensor only on the driver's side exhaust manifold. Basically everythiing aelse is there for the emissions valves, etc as well as the catayltic convertor.
I am sure I could use headers that are C.A. R. B. legal, and I am considering an aluminum GM intake used on passenger cars that is Identical. I would then gasket port match the runners only and maybe select a set of "882's" and have the hard seats installed and then gasket port matched as well. I am sure that any more porting beyond that might trip the Emissions readings at the time of a smog certificate demand. Let me know what ya guys/gals think...
