3spd to TH400 swap questions(shortbed)

I`m looking for input from people that have done this swap.I know the choices, but haven`t decided on a direction to take.I`m considering staying with the 1pc driveshaft and having it made longer.I don`t want to move the engine back for two reasons:1)speedo cable length problems 2)linkage length problems(needs to be custom-made or made from 4wd linkage). The other option would be install 2pc driveshaft either from another shortbed(hard to find) or shorten both shafts from longbed(I have). Not to mention installing carrier bearing.I`m making this swap with two complete vehicles:`71C/20,350,TH400,P/S,P/B and a`72 C/10 SWB,250,3spd.The SWB will be getting a 4/6 drop from Early Classic.I think this will put the trans and rear more in line and centered in slot in crossmember, lessening the need for 2pc driveshaft.Any comments appreciated.

I swapped the 700R4 in place of a 3-speed. Used the stock shifting linkage, automatic crossmember, cooling lines, and had a one piece drive shaft made up in place of the two piece. My truck is a 71 shortbed. Originally a 307. Now 350 w/ the 700. And have done a 3-5 drop. Around 45,000 on it since I did the swap and drive it every day. Really wasn't that difficult. Any specific questions e-mail me and I'll see if I can answer them.

Smitty:Thanks,sounds good.I`ll go ahead and do the custom 1pc. CrazyLonghorn:No,donating the`71 C/20 to build the`72 C/10.It was a hard decision,but I made the move.I owned the`71 since`88 and have alot of fine memories.It will live-on as a `lil shortbed.
