need Edelbrock tuning help

How do you establish the base tune on an Edelbrock 1406? I thought it was closing the two screws at the bottom, then opening them until it runs rough? Mine still has a really rough idle, like it has a HUGE cam. I highly doubt it, and my mileage sucks as well. Please help!

I have a 1406 on my 305, and when it's all warmed up it idles very smooth. Sometimes something in it sticks and it idles a bit rough, but a few runs at full throttle usually gets everything back in order. I set mine by turning both screws all the way in and then both out a turn and a half. I then started it and adjusted ther idle screw(at the linkage for the throttle) for a proper idle speed. This has worked pretty well, but I have taken the screws another quarter to half a turn out trying to get it right. I did all the adjustments with the engine warmed up. This helped my truck so you could try it yoo. Count how many turns your screws go in just so you can put them back if you have problems with my method. Just keep trying different adjustments as long as thing improve. Don't forget to check your timing after you adjust

i am planning on getting a 750 cfm performer rebuild and seems that it is fairly easy to just swap it out without too many problems... i know at summit.com they have adjustment springs for all their carbs.
