will a steering stabilizer do anything?
my truck is 2wd and will be dropped 3/4. my buddy gave me a steering stabilizer made for the 2wd truck, said it would keep it from tracking in all the semi-truck ruts in the road because ive got 275 wide tires on the front. any truth to this and reason to install it besides it was free?

If its a sway bar -- Definitly install it! Sway bars, even just a front sway bar make a phenominal difference on the road...
Not sure about a steering stabalizer, but anything that helps the truck drive / ride better is a worthy installation, if you ask me anyways.

speaking of sway bars, i read that some base models didn't come equiped with sway bars; only upper trim levels had them. Is this true? How can i check and see if i got one?

I think Pat is talking about a stablizer that mounts on the tierod, like some 4x4's have. I don't know if it helps or not on a 2wd. Of course it would help a 4x4 with big tall tires. I figure if it's made for a 2wd, maybe it's made for Prerunners.

A steering stabilizer is a shock that designed to mount sideways. It is connected to your tie rod and helps dampen sharp jolts that your wheels encounter. I don't think it will help prevent your wide tires from following any ruts, but it might help soften the blow if you hit a pot hole....

Anti sway bars were options. Trim level didn't have anything to do with it. My 85 is a Custom Deluxe (base model), but it came with a ton of options. Anti sway bar was one of them. Now, higher trim levels may have came with them without having to be ordered this way. I'm not sure.

To see what it looks like, here is a pic of mine. Of course you won't have urethane bushings.

my cousin told me not too long ago that a steering stabalizer might be overkill on a 2WD; they were originally designed for off roading forces like big rocks and dips, and they started making them for 2WD, or something like that. First I'm gonna throw KYB GR2 gas shocks at Ol Red and go from there

I believe GM made 4 sizes of Sway bars
If you look up sway bar bushings on any of the online parts sites you will find there are almost always 3 sizes listed and sometimes 4.
1 1/16, 1 1/8, 1 3/16, 1 1/4. I have not measured my sway bar but I have been looking into ordering the polyurethane bushings, I don't know how they decided which size went on which vehicle.
