How to check frame for square. Help! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I Am Building A Frame Off 71 Swb Chevy. I Would Like To Double Check If The Frame Is Actually Square. Do You Do A Cross Measurement From End To End Or A Middle Cross Measurement From Lets Say Front Bed Mount To Front Cab Mount? I Did A Cross End To End And Then A Cross Measurement Mount To Mount And Both Read A Different +or-. Please Help I Am At The Point Of Modifying The Factory Rear Panhard Mount Crossmember To Accept The Hot Rods To Hell Truck Arm Kit(very Crucial If Frame Is Off).

measure in an "X" pattern ... front right to rear left & front left to rear right ... the measurements should be the same

That's about all you're going to be able to do. You could spend time leveling the frame rails side to side and measuring to the floor but most floors aren't straight enough to go by. Good luck on the HTH kit. I finally got mine welded up the week before last.

Believe it or not but we take the frames to our Ford dealership to have them checked, GM sent them the specs for their Gen 3 frame machine and they give us a computer print out on each frame for our customers and our peace of mind.

Thanks For The Advice! I Beleive I Will Take The Frame To A Shop That Has The Specs And Double Check. I Am A Picky Pain In The @%#. Lss1 How Do You Like The Hrh Kit? Any Problems Or Suggestions? Do You Have Any Pics?

THe repair manual I bought from one of the vendors has a section on frame truing in it. It has all the measurements in it as well.
