DANA 60 value?
Hello, looking for some info here, Does anybody know the approximate value of some d60 axles? especifically from a late '70 dually? I may have access to a pair of axles but don't know if they will need rebuild, how much will I expect to pay for a rebuild job? Any other info or tips on these axles that you could share will be appreciated.
Thank you. Paul.

Whew big money around the east side of WA.
Fronts usually go anywhere from 800 to 1800 depend on what has been done or what is available.. As for a rear 60 about 250-300. Are you going to put these under a dually? If not you will pay good money to change the front hubs out.. As for the rear same goes for changing things out. I think you have to change the axles out on it to get single rearwheel and the hubs and brake drums.. I think 1969 GMC knows about the front 60 issue.. Can't remember..

I have a half ton that I want to turn into a 1 ton dually (pros, cons?) so I would keep the dually stuff and no need to change stuff out. I hope that GMC 1969 chimes in and gives a little insight on the subject. Thanks for the reply.

It is a GM dually, right? If so, the front axle will bolt right in. Brake fittings and all that may be a little different, as I forget when they switched SAE to metric.
The only downside to a dually dana 60 is the hubs (EDIT: I mean bearing hubs, not locking hubs), which push the wheels out farther. There are a few things you can do about this...just run the hubs and have the wheels stick out from your front fenders, which isnt recommended, it may hit stuff. You can buy a set of hubs from a SRW dana 60, which will put the wheels in the right place, but these are expensive. I'm talking $400-$500 for both. Or, you could run hummer wheels, which have like 5" of offset, or any other wheel with such a large amount of offset. The rear axle is worth some cash, but it depends if it is a dana 70 or a 14 bolt. The dana 70 is too wide to be used in anything but a dually, unless you want to cut it down and have custom axleshafts made. 14 bolts are narrower IIRC, and since its a one ton, either rear axle will also bolt right up under a 67-72 4x4, the spring perches are in the correct locations. I agree with drink on pricing, but it depends on what condition the axles are in. if they work, the front should be 800-900, and the rear around 200 or so. The front axle would be worth more $$ if it was the single wheel version, but i'd still snatch em up

Re: DANA 60 value?
i'd like to bump this thread instead of starting a new one.
I found a set of axles that are in disrepair, defiantly will need a rebuild. As the fatman said above: what's gonna be the rough cost of rebuilding both front and rear axles?

-Front Rotors: $22 - $45 each -Front "Loaded" Calipers: $50 each w/exchange -Front Inner/Outer Bearings/Races/Seals: $25-$35 per side -Warn hubs: $190 New axle joints can really vary depending on what kind and who does the work. I put in the good heavy duty Spicers and had a shop build the axles for around $250 total....I think.

Re: DANA 60 value?
Why not just start your own thread? It`s ok if a subject gets repeated every four years or so,I`d think. I saw Paul`s name and thought,"Great,He`s back!!" Oh well,he was a good member.
It`s a tough number to pin down depending on what each rear needs.I`d figure about $300 labor plus about the same for parts.Like,$600-$800.

Re: DANA 60 value?
I've messed with alot of 60s over the years. Inless you want to replace everything in the axle, it's really not too bad. Kingpin rebuild for both sides, upper and lower is around $100. Rotors and calipers/pads listed above, ujoints were $45-ish/each last one I bought. Wheel bearings were $20 each, race about $10. There isn't really much to rebuilding these inless it is really bad.
But for price, depends where you are. Where I am, there isn't really a demand for them, so people just buy them to resell. I picked up a GM SRW for $125, and a HP60 DRW for free. The most I ever paid for one was $500, and that was the whole truck. Parted it out and made money and then some. Around here the rears aren't worth much, inless it's a military with 4.56s and a Detroit. Pretty much the same as a 2wd, so dime a dozen.....

Re: DANA 60 value?
D60 fronts here go from $650-$1500. There are brand new SRW D60 hubs on ebay and you can get them shipped to your door for around $325 with races in them. My brother baught a set last year and converted his DRW front to SRW. Not hard to do at all.

Didn't get any pictures. The rear disc brakes is a bonus.
