What did you get done?

It's Sunday evening again, so I get to ask everyone "What did you get done?"

Friday I went to see an old buddy one last time. He was killed last week on his sport bike while out riding with a couple of friends. He was 35 years old and had 3 children. It was a tragic reminder of how dangerous driving fast can be.

The rest of the weekend I was on call so I spent the days running all over Houston repairing video games.

I did get a chance to talk with my buddy Rodney Hutcherson from Total Kaos graphics. We discussed ideas for my Blazer, and he is going to start on renderings soon...

that stinks about your buddy 35 is waay too young to die particularly when you have younguns...
I didint do a thing on the truck this weekend. On wednesday or thursday i came home and found someone had either kicked up a rock or thrown one at the drivers door main window of my truck and shattered it so i replaced the glass in that that afternoon. Then on friday i started working on replacing the thermostat in the monte carlo and of course one of the bolts broke in the manifold and when i tried drilling it out, the bit broke in there too so i spent the day saturday hunting down a new intake and buying the gasket kit. The good news was i found a really nice condition intake and a four core radiator from an SS for $55 for both pieces. So now maybe tomorrow ill get my buddy down here for a while and ill do the manifold and radiator..and while im at it i will do the valve cover gaskets on the car too hopefully no more surprises....
oh yeah i also changed the serpentine belt on the ranger today. Sometime this week i need to check the brakes in the van and get some parts ready to sell on here

Sorry to hear about your friend.

My wife was at a retreat Saturday, so my son and I hung out. We went to all the "boy stores" as he calls it (home depot and Auto parts houses). We pretty much goofed off the day. It was great.

I picked up some cabinets and stuff for the shop Friday (old metal college dorm furniture), and set to cleaning it up and arranging it within the shop.

Far as truck stuff, I finally broke the outer door handle on my 96, does that count? I guess I should have fixed it earlier, but it's only been loose for 3 years .

Today was college homework day.

Sat: worked like usual...11-8.. go thome and relaxed.

Sun: i worked a whopping 3 hrs.. 7am-11am. then went to the in-laws and worked on father-in-laws escort wagon.. the oil pan bolt must have been put on with a air ratchet and is cross threaded, neither of us could make it budge. anyone have any ideas?
tinkered on my tbird, did some adjust on the rod in the master cylinder.. it may need more adjusting, its still not building pressure.
finally painted the drivers door on the wifes maxima from where she got in a wreck. Looks 100% better........didnt do anything on the truck...

Had to do the job thing 'til 2:30 on Sat, then took my old parts dually out in the country to drive it and make sure that it was mechanically good. Trans shifted good, transfer case seemed OK, motor had a little noise, but I think its a lifter. I'll pull the trans/transfer case (400 turbo/NP203) and put it in my 3/4 ton, and get the Dana 60 front out and convert it to SRW. (Also for the 3/4 ton) The 454 should make for an interesting project later.
Sun - Went out to Mom and Dad's house to do some painting on a trailer, then went home and RAKED LEAVES!
But the best part of Sunday.........MY DOLPHINS FINALLY WON!!!!!!!!

Take care everyone!
Joe

P.S. My condolences for your bud, N2TRUX.

finally changed the driver side exhaust mainfold on the 68, so my alternator wouldn't fall off.(bolt in manifold was broken off)Put on new exhaust gaskets on both sides and got rid of exhaust leaks. Hung out with my dad, which I do not get to do much anymore, so that was cool.

My condolences to you,Ken, and your buddy's family.

Didn't get anything truck related done. I did have to work my second job Saturday, then Saturday night went to dinner with my finace and then we went to see Taxi (real funny movie!). Sunday I did house chores, watched the Vikes and NASCAR, and attended a cousins B-day party.

Sorry to hear about your friend Ken, my prayers go out to his family and friends.

i went to our last home HS football game of the year, and our team won 34-7. Saturday i filled up Red AGAIN, got 11.6 MPG, about average for me. Went to the mall.
Sunday i dug around in my engine looking for anymore needs. I made a list for bday / Xmas of needs and a couple wants to give to my aunt and uncle and for my mom. Here's a general rap-up of the needs in order.
Shocks
Carburetor (Daddy said he's rebuilt this one twice, time for a new one)
Timing set
Radiaor hoses
Headlight bulbs
Sorry to here about your friend. It plumb sucks when you lose someone, especially when they are in the prime of their life.

hey man, sorry about your friend. thats one thing i have learned, is that a person cannot, an I meant CANNOT get comfortable on a sport bike. as soon as you do, then the unspeakable occurs.

I got the heat working on the truck on thursday, boy was I happy abuot that. 40* sucks when yer below the dewpoint an ya gotta drive to school at 0730am. its a PITA to defrost with no heat. that was the truck accomplishment.....

got 2 cords of wood cut, and a lot of slash put up in piles so that i can start burnin here soon....

guess thats it....got my other saw runnin like a champ too.....hehehe

My father died suddenly and unexpectedly in May. He was the person who got me involved in every hobby I have now. I really miss him. I finally brought his motor scooter and car over to my house this weekend. I had to get rid of our Camaro to make room for both.

The Camaro right before it left:

The Chevy as it was arriving:

I hope to eventually bring his little coupe back to looking the way it did before his health started to decline.

Not a darn thing on the trucks. I hate being stuck in an apartment with no garage or yard or tools in a town 100 miles away from home.

Nothing on trucks this weekend except cleaning up a bit.

Sorry about your buddy also Ken.

I was also reminded how short life can be last week. On Thursday I attended the memorial service for the son of one of my co-workers. 21 Years old. Worked at a tire center and an RV fell off the jack and crushed him... or the jack failed it is still up in the air....
A solid reminder to be safe at all times when we are working around the house and on our trucks in the garage.... Jack stands... Jack stands... Jack stands....

Regards,

Stace

Sorry to hear about your buddy Ken. I too had to go to a funeral this weekend. One of my wife's aunts passed away late Thrursday evening, so we had to drive to Tennessee Saturday afternoon for the viewing and attend the funeral Sunday.

We did get to ride in a little more style. I added another GM vehicle to my stable early Saturday morning. I purchased my wife a 2003 GMC Yukon. It's fully loaded with every option. I'll take some pics of it soon, along with my '04 2500 and my 87 as soon as I can find a cool place to park them all.

Worked on finishing up the stereo in my GMC & finally found the body mount washers I needed so the cab is finally bolted on the chassis. Went to the court house & licensed the wifes new truck & the van I just bought (@$700 ouch). I also stood in the garage & smoked cigs while looking at my truck again. Geeeeeeeeeez if Id only spend my garage time actually working on it instead of looking at it, it would be close to drivable...cornfed

Cool

Hit Pick-Ur-Part for an alt for the wifes escort $12. Scored a new stereo for the truck $8 and a Chevy Tailgate band for $7.00! Sweet!!

Installed the stereo - and of course - the memory doesn't work. Oh Well!!

Moved lumber for a friend and loaned him my miter saw and jigsaw. (he's pretty useless with tools - so I'm confident I'll get them back!)

Sorry to hear about your buddy, Ken.

On a brighter note, I went down to Austin this weekend, to attend a "pimps and hoes" party at a buddy's house. Those of you that know me can imagine it was quite a sight. Don't think I am going to switch vocations just yet, but I do look quite nice in purple and leopard skin, thank you very much.

On Sunday, I brought a parts car home to strip this week, a 1985 Trans Am. I need the trans and rear for another project (actually two). Pulling the engine out last night, I found someone swapped a 350 TPI in place of the 305. It's nice to actually win sometimes. It also looks like I have another avenue which to pursue with my Blazer.

I have been on the fence about the seats for a while too. I picked up a power split bench from a 2000 Crew Cab (old body style) Friday, for my favorite price of free. I have decided to ditch the rear seat, and put the bench it front, with a cover of some sort of cover on the back, a la SSR. We'll see how long this idea lasts. With all of the cars coming and going in the next few weeks, I put the Blazer in a buddy of mine's garage for the time being. I think I will tear it down when it comes back.
