Damned Theives....

Hi gang,
Sorry I haven't been able to post in some time but, I have been busy moving my girlfriend and I into an apartment. I just got my dsl line activated yesterday so... I should be back around more.

Now to the title of my post.... I took my old lady up to the local wal-mart to pick up our christmas tree. We were inside for no more than an hour and I come outside to find my drivers wing window laying in my floorboard. Somebody stole the console that I had built last spring along with audio components that were under it. Just had to vent and to remind everyone to watch themselves during the holidays...... there's more people out than anything else....

I'm also going to post a thread in the parts forum for a drivers wing window. If anyone has a spare that they can let go let me know. Maybe I should just pm teeitup...

Thanks... I'm not really upset, My buddy has had his 84 truck broken into five or six times since he's had it. I just wasn't too happy when I noticed I was going to have to put a new window in...

damn dude that sucks. what all was in the console that they stole? did you go and see if there was a video of what happened. more than likely your walmart has a lot of cameras outside. just go in and tell them what happened. i would have gotten the police there if i was you.

dinnut, I had 2 amps and a 10" sony sub. None of it was hooked up... there was no way to see any of it. Also... My girlfriend went inside and wal-mart, wouldn't do anything.... They do have cameras though but, if it doesn't hurt the store then they aren't going to mess with checking the tapes.

it was probably one of your 'friends' some one that knew you had it and wanted it bad enough. looks like you need some levers for your heat selector too

Sorry to hear. Hope you can get er fixed on the cheap. I allready gave my spare to a neighbor that shared your same fate. Next half off day at pick-n-pull I'm gonna pick a couple up just for this reason.
I'd just put an old tape deck in mine if the po hadn't cut the dash. Nobody wants an old 2nd gen Pioneer supertuner anymore.

Don't mean to hi-jack the tread. But has anyone ever got ripped off at the dealership?

My brother had taken his truck in on warranty work and someone at the dealership messed around the back of the dash. They cut a few wires while attempting to get his non-factory deck out. He had done it right, he used a harness kit. All they would have had to do was pull the plug.

Not to mention they also drain close to a gallon of DEX-COOL anti-freeze out (when they first started using it in Chevrolet pickups). The truck got hot on the way home. He had to add some.

Sory to hear about your truck. I own a honda ricer, and I have a piece of crap radio in it. I usually keep my car park in my drive way and my 72 chevy truck in the garage. Well six months ago I was surfing the web at about 1AM, my dogs starting barking. I looked out the window and notice some guy standing next to my car. The guy was trying to open the car door. I opened the house door and I asked him "can I help you". Guy turned around and he pulled out something from his coat that look like a gun. I immediately closed the door and called the cops. It took the cops 20mins to arrive and the guy was long gone by then. I did not own any type of weapon when this incident happened. But now . It freaked me out to think that there was a guy out side with a gun and I don't have nothing inside my house to protect my family.

I Hatw theives... Abuddie of mine had his 68 in the parking lot and someone made off with the carb/air cleaner/dizzy and stereo stuff. The truck had a good alarm on it so the best we can tell it was someone who lived close by... Sorry about your loss.

That really sucks. I've had it happen 3 times in the last 10 years. Every time it's all of the other damage they do getting the stuff out that ticks me off. Last time it was a 5 year old cd player that was worth a few hundred bucks at best but they did about another thousand in damage getting in and tearing it from the dash.

If it's just the glass I think I have one. I'll have to check. But if I do you can have it. I had to replace my wing window assembly and the one I got from the junkyard wasn't tinted. I just pulled that one out and put my tinted one in. I don't think I threw the glass away.
Like I said though, if I find it you can have it. I'll know around 8am central.

That's tough to hear. May I make a few recommendations?

Make your next stereo install a stealth install with no big custom console revealing that something must lie underneath. Or go lockable console. And, wherever possible, install the componets with bolts/nuts that cannot be removed without special tools. You know, anything from double nuts underneath to speciality security fasteners. Of course, let the dash-mounted head unit come out with ease to protect the dash.

For future street playing, liberal use of sound dampening material (dynamat, etc.) can make the stereo fairly quiet outside the truck with the windows rolled up. Expensive, but the neighbors will love you for not trying to entertain the neighborhood.

Use an alarm that only goes audible when the hood/doors open. Less loud false alarms. A customizeable alarm that says "Thief! Thief!" works much better than a siren. People ignore the irritating sirens, nowadays. Try one of the remote notification systems so when you're in "walmart," you'll be notified of tampering. You can then tie many oversensitive sensors (ultrasound, etc) to just the remote, since these sensors won't make the alarm go audible until the hood/door sensors are tripped. Unfortunately, I can't recommend which units, if any, will reach that far thru buildings. Still, good for home use. Chain the hood down to prevent disablement. Remote starter solenoids disallow alarm disablement by overloading the battery from the starter's +cable. And a kill switch & tracking systems (lojack, etc) work great for the truck itself.

Finally, you could replace the vent windows with unbreakable Speedglass. Send Percy's an example/template, and they'll cut in reg or tinted. OTH, then thieves might take out the main window glass. More noise that way, though. Still, I'd love to see a thief trying to break a lexan vent window and then see him

Hello and Good day everyone,, Sorry to hear about your truck being robbed. That is an awful feeling knowing someone has the nerve to go in to your very own space and steal from it. No goods...

Question, Since this is about wing windows. I replaced my old ones with brand new ones. They leak air like a sieve. I contact the manufacturer and says, oh, well we tell all of our customers we cannot guarantee they won't leak air or water, that is why we recommend removing them completely and going to a full window electric set up, or seal the wing windows shut with Silicone. I could not believe my ears.

Has anyone had the same problem and then figured out how to make them work without sealing them shut? About the old windows I took out. Well, the guy that I had hired to replace and install my electric windows and the wing windows ended up being an alcoholic and he never did get it done. So I had to go in to his shop 5 days after he said he would have everything done and put my doors together without the electric windows, just so I could get my truck out of his shop. Well I forgot the old wing windows when I left upset, and he threw them away because I refused to pay him for the two hinges he replaced on one door during that week he had my truck.

I would have paid him for it, but he scratched my brand new $80 piece of glass for the passenger door so bad I had to replace it. So sad to see this guy ruining his life over booze. And on top of that caused me a great amount of grief and trouble.

Anyway, So I don't have any extra wing windows for you. If I did, I would help you out. Sounds like Ol School saved your day, that was kool of you Ol Skool..

Any advice about what to do about these new leaky wing window assemblies is greatly appreciated... Thank you..
