Im ready to buy an aftermarket steering wheel for my 85 but I dont know what to get. I have looked at grant but have no idea what would look good and what size.

What aftermarket steering wheel do you have and whats the diameter?
If you could post some pics or even just a make/model# or link to pic on website I would really appreciate it. Also any info on adapters required or horn kits, etc.

This is an Autozone special. Not even sure what brand it is because my father in law bought it for me. I can tell you that I like the feel of the wheel alot better but since it is smaller than the original its hard to get a look at some of the gauges with moving your head around. It took about an hour to do the install with a rented puller tool from Autozone.

Nice, thank you for the pic, looks good. Thats kinda what I was looking at sorta, I dont wanna spend alot (something under $100), some of those billet wheels are really nice but they are around $300+

Here's the one in my 77. It's a Billet Specialties "VinTec" That matches me wheels....

there was a post about aftermarket steering wheels a couple months ago. I have a LeCarra Mark IX "Gunslinger" in my Blazer right now. It isn't here so I can't take a pic. I think Summit sells LeCarra wheels pretty cheap, and in a lot of colors. I really like mine.

Here's the cheap grant I bought at a local parts store. If I remember right it was around $50 & I think its 13"...corn

Here's a pic of mine. It's a Grant Model 838. I bought it at O'Reilly Auto Parts for around $30. It's pretty similar to, if not just like, TrainD5115's. It's about 13 1/2" and it's a little small IMO. Like Train said, you kinda have to move around a little to read the guages. It might be different with a tilt column depending on where you set it. I think something in the 15-15 1/2" range would be best. The install kit from Grant for these types of steering wheels is #3196.

i myself would go with a variant of the last one, i use the std. 90 surburban wheel, has a little bit more fancy horn cap, with the red lettered chevrolet under lined. just remember if you go pull one to get the horn wire shaft and spring as you need the one that matches the wheel. nice simple bolt on addition. jw

i hve an early 70's camaro wheel in mine and i think it looks good.i would use that or a grant wheel as opposed to a 88-94 truck wheel-i dont like them myself

i have the same one as TrainD5115 and 76sierra classic .. but i painted my center cap flat black .. i believe its a grant classic .....

Depends on the quality and the type of pain you want to deal with. Grant makes a good product, but the foam steering grip starts to break up after awhile, but you could wrap it in leather. The mounting for a Grant is easy, but the horn has some issues on operation or longevity of the fibre plate. It can deteriorate to the point that the button doesn't stay on. I finally went with a Lecarra wheel and hub assembly on all of my trucks. It mounts really easy and the connection for the horn is one wire plug. They look good and are not breaking the bank if you go to the right place to buy. I bought mine from "YOGI's Street rod parts" and saved money over everyone else. Look in Goggle or Yahoo for YOGI's.
