Didn't you guys have flywheel problems? Cracked or broke. What did it do? Did it knock?

my stock flexplate was cracked pretty bad about a year and a half ago on the 305. i had a shop replace it along with the rear main seal that was leaking.
the ticking wasnt noticable while driving, but you could hear it if i went in reverse at any speed whatso ever. it would make the ticking sound every once in a while right after i come out of park and tap on the gas in drive. picture this: the big round holes that are all around the flexplate. well, i had cracks running from at least 4 of the crank bolts all the way to each of those holes. |

When the flexplate on my friend's C10 cracked, it just made a clicking sound when the engine was running.

My 88 4.3 blazer makes a high click at idle. Then when you go to about 1500 rpm it speeds up then at 2000 its completely gone. And when I kick the air on at idle - 1500 its is a really loud fast click. And it sounds like it is coming from under the truck and the back of the motor. Think its the flexplate?

Mine the whole center broke out from the rest of the flexplate. Funny thing was it still started right up and not even a hint of it being bad. I found this out when I changed the transmission that went out. If you loosen the convertor and push it back. Take a screwdriver metal end and tap the flexplate. If it rings like a bell its said to be good, if its dull its said to have a fracture in the flexplate.

That is what I think it is. It is a $20 flywheel from AutoZone. I figure I have between 300-350 ft/lbs of torque running through it. I don't think that it is strong enough to handle that much
