1970 CST Factory Options
I am restoring my 1970 CST which I originally purchased when I was 18 in 1988. It is black on black with bucket seats, tilt, power steering, power brakes, and dealer installed air. I am trying to restore it to factory condition except for the fact that I do not have the original engine and the new 350 will have some additional hidden HP under the hood. I have many questions that I hope people can help me out.
#1 My truck has a sliding rear window which is of high quality and appears to resemble factory ones discussed on this page. It is not listed in the options sheet. Could this be dealer installed? How do I check? #2 My truck has tilt, power brakes and steering eventhough those options are not listed in the options list. Are these options standard on the CST package. All look original. #3 My truck has black lower trim which appears original. Based on previous discussions, all CST's had woodgrain trim. Just want to double check. Was that always the case? #4 My truck has the carpet on the door bottoms, around the gas tank, and on the kick panels. Is this part of the CST package? #5 I hate to bring this up, but did 1970 CST's come with a Turbo 400? Mine has one in it. It may not be original #6 What type of mirrors did my truck come with? I don't think the cheap looking mirrors on the truck are original. I suspect it came with the three bolt pad/arm type mirrors. #7 I believe the only wheels available for my truck were steel with hubcaps. Is this true? #8 Where can I get a good site of trailing arms. One of mine is bad. #9 Did 1970 trucks come with a 300HP engine. LMC suggests they do. I have a friend with an unrestored 1972 cheyenne that has the 300hp emission sticker on the radiator support. #10 Finally, I seems like the invader 350 only came in the GMC. If so, why does LMC suggest it was available for a 1970 chevrolet? Thanks for any help Jason Donnelly, MN ![]() |

#1 was likely a dealer option but I am not sure how you would tell if that window is the same one the dealer put in.
#2 should be on the list. They may have been added later by a PO. #4 I don't believe this was ever an option, someone else added the carpet to the doors, kickpanels, and tank. #8 post a WTB ad in the parts section. Welcome to the board!! I am in South Dakota, just a bit west and a few hours south of you. Shawn

Assuming glove box sticker is original to your truck, my first question is does your option sticker list the CST RPO? Based on your questions your truck may be a clone or an original CST with many prev. owner upgrades.
#1 My truck has a sliding rear window which is of high quality and appears to resemble factory ones discussed on this page. It is not listed in the options sheet. Could this be dealer installed? How do I check? Quite possibly or added during a previous resto. What does the center latch have stamped on it if anything? Original sliders have a specific stamping but I can't remember what it is. #2 My truck has tilt, power brakes and steering eventhough those options are not listed in the options list. Are these options standard on the CST package. All look original. No. CST is a trim package only. Most likely a PO upgrade. #3 My truck has black lower trim which appears original. Based on previous discussions, all CST's had woodgrain trim. Just want to double check. Was that always the case? Again, possibly swapped out by a PO or a CST clone #4 My truck has the carpet on the door bottoms, around the gas tank, and on the kick panels. Is this part of the CST package? With exception of gas tank, no. These items are all aftermarket stuff, not GM or dealer installed #5 I hate to bring this up, but did 1970 CST's come with a Turbo 400? Mine has one in it. It may not be original TH400's were put in BB trucks and some small block 3/4 tons. Have not seen one in a small block 1/2 ton but it could be a factory install. #6 What type of mirrors did my truck come with? I don't think the cheap looking mirrors on the truck are original. I suspect it came with the three bolt pad/arm type mirrors. Several mirror styles were available. Need pics #7 I believe the only wheels available for my truck were steel with hubcaps. Is this true? Yes, hubcaps or full wheel covers. No Ralleys! #8 Where can I get a good site of trailing arms. One of mine is bad. Check parts board for used. Guys in the SW junk them all the time, but shipping is a bear. Don't buy new from LMC, overpriced IMO. #9 Did 1970 trucks come with a 300HP engine. LMC suggests they do. I have a friend with an unrestored 1972 cheyenne that has the 300hp emission sticker on the radiator support. Don't know ![]() #10 Finally, I seems like the invader 350 only came in the GMC. If so, why does LMC suggest it was available for a 1970 chevrolet? "Invader" was a marketing thing for GMC, same engine as Chevy. To my knowledge, only GMC's had this sticker. LMC is a good reference but not the "bible" ![]()

Options list
My truck does that the Custom Sport Truck Listed on the option list. I think it is Z84 but I am not sure without looking.
What is a PO. I assume a purchase order. When did those take place? Jason |

Sorry Previous Owner
So your glovebox indicates the option which does not negate anything I said, but does limit the possibility its a CST clone. Welcome...and got pics? ![]()

Carpet
Tom Hand
I have a 1970 chevrolet truck flyer that shows all the different truck available. It also shows three different CST interior packages. I believe one of the options shows carpet on the kick panels and on the door bottoms. I also notice that LMC sells those carpet packages as well. Is a Serria the CST/Cheyenne of GMC? Jason |

If it has the LS9 350 V8 gas engine on the glovebox sticker, it would be 255HP.

Ls9
I belive the option code listed is an LS9. Thanks for the help. I will put the correct stick on the radiator support. Any idea what goodies got the 350's to 300 hp in trucks? Do you know the option code for the 300 hp motor?

I've had a couple trucks that had turbo 400's and they were 1/2 tons.

Thanks
Thanks for the phone number on the restoration packet. I will call ASAP. Your truck looks just like mine. Do you have any bigger pictures. How does the woodgrain trim look against the black color.

And in that packet, there is absolutly no reference to door carpet nor kick panel carpet. You have something added by the P.O./dealer.
Fuel tank carpet was with the bucket seat option. GMC trucks could be had with a TH400 in swb 1/2 ton trucks. My old one was so equipped originally. |

original slider will have "Prestige" stamped on the latch.
overall, it sounds like a p/o went crazy with a restore. its possible for an option or two to slip thru the cracks and come on a truck from the factory without being on the option sticker, but I doubt GM would miss a lot of stuff like that. good luck with your resto!

Slider
Thanks for the informaiton. I checked the slider and it does not say prestige on it. I am kind of happy because I really didn't want to put it in my truck anyways.
Thanks again Jason |

Welcome.Sounds like a nice truck.Don`t know the TH400 code off-hand.Th350 was M49 and both were available independent of engine or rate of suspension.I`ve seen exceptions to the black vs woodgrain belt-line moulding.I`m looking for a farm for cheap.TomHand, how many acres?

M49 Option
My truck has the M49 option listed. What confuses me is that I have a 1969 Custom Camper that has a 400 and also has the M49 option

You guys are wrong about the door/kickpanel carpet thing....I bought this truck in '86 ....and the carpet was already faded/dryrotted. If you do the math you will see there were no vendors then selling aftermarket stuff like that for these trucks. It may be a GMC thing.....the instrument panel was body color...chevy didn't do that either

J.C. Whitney was sellin all kinds of crap in the 70's and 80's.
While yes, GMC did have a few things a little different from Chevrolet, but I'll bet a years pay that these were not a factory option. 1. They are not listed on the glove box. 2. The Sierra wasn't even the highest trim level. 3. There are other '72 Sierra trucks on here, but they don't have this feature, so it wasn't part of the package. Dealer installed I'll bieleve...but stock...I'll bet a years pay. Well, that'd be stupid...how about a punch in the gut? 14 years is a lot of time for carpet to fade...if they were added in '76, that would still be a whole decade to fade. As for the M49 tranny...that is the same code for th350 & th400. |
