racedvl,
You have several options. Use a 9' Ford with disc out of a Continental or a Caddy. Unless you plan on making your own adapting plates for disc brakes, you're better off buying a kit for a 10 or 12 bolt. The best prices I've found for with Caddy parts or even Corvette brakes is here http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/rear_...nversions.html ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ |

$200 for rotors, calipers, mounting brackets, emergency brake cables and caliper rebuild kit. I was able to do the required machining myself therefore I'm not sure of that cost. You must turn od of axle flange and modify mounting brackets. Caliper mounting brackets must mount to inside of rear axle housing flange. Parts were from a '78 Seville.

I did the same conversion your speaking of and also all the mod's that CB spoke of too. I also used parts from a '78 Cadillac Seville. I am a machinist by trade and did all my own mods as well (turn axle, redrill mounting holes for backing plates and sloting backing plate to mount on back side of axle flange).
As far as costs, $25.00 - backing plates - salvage yard $15.00 - used calipers - salvage yard $78.00 - each - new calipers - auto supply store $59.00 - new rotors - auto supply store The reason i went to the salvage yard for the calipers is for all of the emergency brake brakets. The new calipers dont come with them. Strip your old calipers and use them for the core charge on the new ones. I still have to "open up" the litte slot for the emergency brake cables to connect to the Caddy calipers and i havent installed my brake lines yet, Inline Tube can make these for you, just give them a call and let them know that you are doing. Hope this helps ------------------ Keep On Truckin' Shane nduroracer@aol.com [This message has been edited by Shane (edited 05-28-2001).] |

The reason that I asked this is because that the yards around here don't have these caddys. And if they did, it would be out way too much money. I'm thinking of asking a member to get the stuff for me. If nayone wants to give me a hand let me know.

Hey Devl,
The backing plate I got came from another member too (SuperChevy). I couldnt find a local yard that would sell me JUST the backing plates, they wanted to sell the entire rear-end. As far as the calipers, I will check on some for you next time i go to my favorite "hunting grounds". What are you willing to give, that way i know if its worth it to you for me to pull the calipers ahead of time. I know i gave approx. $10 for the two used calipers i got. I will see if the yard that i got these from has anymore. You can have them for what i gave for them plus shipping....sound fair??? If this sounds like something i can help you with, let me know. ------------------ Keep On Truckin' Shane nduroracer@aol.com |
