disc conversion on '67 swb
i've seen where people change the whole front cross member, like 7 bolts on each side, and go over that way, but can i just change my ball joints and steering conponents and use the spindals from say a 76? the ball joints are the same except for the taper that goes into the spindal. same on tierod ends. i guess my main question is do i have to change the whole crossmember?

no you can use ball joints spindles tie rod ends and www.classicperform sells a tie rod adjuster sleeve that makes it so you can use the orignal centerlink

If you've got a donor truck already in mind...I swapped everything out from a 77, except the crossmember. It fits straight-up, and easier to remember when visiting the parts store. The only thing you'll use are the smaller u-bolts from your old setup.

i started working on the conversion today, i'm using a '76 for a doner, and i pulled both spindals, centerlink, and stearing box and pitman arm. i went ahead and purchased all new inner and outter tierod ends, adjusting sleeves, and upper and lower ball joints. the part number on the idler arm is same on 67 and 76 and i'm replacing the stearing box cause it has less play then my '67 box. check out http://www.fatmanfab.com/ they do a lot of tublar a-arms, and kits for lowering ect. not too steep on price either.
another question? does break line length to the front brakes matter? or can i relocate the stock position of the break praportiating valve (long word can't spell that one lol)? i assume the only thing that would matter would be brake line diameter. anyways, thanks for the help! keep on truckin'

Hey Busta,
Use the master and prop. valve off the donor or find a power booster set up from a '71 or '72. ( I used a '72 3/4 ton booster/master/prop. valve) Use the brake hoses off the donor and relocate the lines from behind the crossmember to the front. You will also need the brass T from a '71 or '72 as the line sizes and fittins are different. The rear brake line fitting will also have the wrong fitting on it. Feel free to e-mail me or post any Q's here. Good luck. Brian ------------------ '68 Shortbox Stepside -- 250 cu.in. 4 speed, disc swap up front '00 Grand Prix GTP Sedan I AM CANADIAN!!! Go Oilers!
