Smile turned a 13.876 @99 mph yesterday

i went to irp yesterday and i ran the truck this time(i usually just watch the other guys run) i had big traction problems but i got a best time of 13.876. i am going to get me some bfg drag radials and see if i can go quicker. i am excited i was pleasantly surprised with my best time.

That's good! There isnt any 1/4 mile tracks around here. There are 2 strips pretty close and both are 1/8ths. I ran a 9.573 at 73mph with traction problems and electrical problems. I plan to do a stall conv. and bigger cam, then go try again.

MY 60 FT TIME WAS 2.208, MY 1/8 TIME WAS 8.915 SPEED 78.91
THE SPECS ON MY ENGINE IT IS A 406 SMALL BLOCK 9.75 TO 1 COMPRESSION, 270 MAGNUM CAM 1.6 ROLLER TIP ROCKERS. 600 CFM HOLLEY CARB (JETTED UP TO 700 I THINK I BOUGHT IT FROM AN OLD MAN AT A CRUIZ IN) FLOWTECH HEADERS STOCK 350 HEADS WITH A THREE ANGLE VALVE JOB, 400 TURBO TRANS 373 GEARS PEG LEG REAR END. HP IS OVER 300 ACCORDING TO DESKTOP DYNO AND MY QUARTER MILE TIMES AND TORQUE IS ABOVE 450.

I DID NOT MENTION IT BUT I SMOKED TWO MUSTANGS THAT NIGHT AT THE TRACK AND I BEAT A FORD LIGHTNING. I USE TO DRAG RACE A 78 Z28 CAMARO THAT I HAD WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE SO I KNOW HOW TO RACE.

Wow good run! If your running high 13's then I can only wonder what my 71 swb will do when the 402 comes back from the Machine shop!

Right now it's getting rebuilt. She's getting forged pistons .30 over, the deck is getting trued and decked (decked so that I'll have 10.5:1 compression) and the whole rotating assembly is being balenced to 1 gram or less. I was told I should have somewhere between 375-400 horses and 400-425 tourqe.

Speaking of spanking Mustangs. What would an 86 5.0 stock 302 with dual exhast and headers run? I just wanna know some approx. times.

a stock 86 GT should run mid 15's in the 1/4 mile.

WOW that's a very respectable first run. I can see low 13s coming once the traction issues are taken care of and you get it dialed in.

yep traction is a major problem

it is a peg leg and i smoked the tires a long way. i am thinking of going with a mini spool and some bfg drag radials 325/50/15. spools are suppose to be bad for street driving. i made about 5 friends at the track who all use mini spools on the street. one of them has been using a mini spool for 5 years and he drives his 10second car over 20 miles to the track weekly and he says he drives it around town as well. he says that he has not had a problem with the mini just make sure when you park you park straight so not to bind on the axles. what do you guys think"? and where can i get a posi unit for less that 400 dollars. the attractive thing about a mini is the price $85

Ive driven a few cars on the street that were spooled or had welded spiders and didnt notice a hell of a difference to tell the truth except when diving them in the rain . The absolute truth is that you can find posi rear ends for these trucks in junkyards for less than $200 in most parts of the country and in the newspapers as well if you look long enough.

Back in my days of youth I ran around w/3 different guys that had 64, 66, & 69 chevy trucks that all ran welded spider gears, then moved up to mini-spools & drove them daily on the street. Back then you could get a posi but by the time you refreshed it you were out a couple of bills & man we were poor! Compared, the mini-spools lasted longer, cost less overall, & were generally easier to deal with & open 3.73 rear ends were practically free @ wrecking yards. I'm not talking about little motors either as the smallest was a 406. The heavy hitter was the 66 w/a 427, solid roller, & big juice & he was the only one that broke a rear(pinion on a 4.11 rear w/big slicks). Anyway, for the price of a mini-spool it wouldn't cost much for you to see for yourself. Just buy some machinists dye, coat the axles(preferably new aftermarket stronger ones), scribe a line from hub to splines & inspect from time to time to see if the scribed line is no longer straight. If it is, time for new axles.

Had a 150 plus hp '65 karmann ghia that would smoke a Mustank any day. Ran low 14's all day long. Can't wait to toast them in my Jimmy this summer!
