Dash Brake Light On

My 78's Dashboard Brake light came on about 2 weeks ago. I didn't even know it worked!!!!!! Any Idea why it has come on now and won't go off???
I looked for a switch on the E Brake handle and components under the dash, and saw nothing. And my brakes don't have sensor wiring run to them, so I am at a loss.
Any Ideas would be appreciated.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

Rob

You sure there is not a wire to your proportioning valve? When brake light goes on, it normally lets you know there is some kind of issue with either front or rear brakes. Ckeck brake line for rust-leaks. Especially line going back to rear brakes along frame where they usually rust out.

The switch for the e-brake is not real visible. You might try pushing the e-brake lever all the way up by hand and see if that solves the problem. I have had the same issue and most times it was the e-brake.

Well, have you checked the fluid level? You didn't mention it in your post so I thought I would ask. Thats what it was on my vehicle.

The springs in the break could be locked up. I know that does happen if its not use for a long time then it gets all lock up.
I am not a machanic so i dont know just what i know can happen.

Also the level of the fluid can do that to i knwo that. If it gets like bright to dim. i think. but maybe check the level

Hands down the most common reason for the lit brake warning marker in this era of GM vehicles is leaking rear wheel cylinder(s). The second is a leak in the rear brake lines. And the third is seized up automatic adjusters which leave the brake shoes too far from the drums.
