600 RWHP from a 355?
There is a real nice '70 on cardomain, but he claims to have 600 rear wheel horsepower from a 355! It has only one 750cfm carb, no turbo, blower, nos.. Am I really supposed to believe this? He also claims to have a Dana 60 rearend, but it looks kinda like my 12 bolt, but I'm no expert on this. I'm not hatin' on him, he has an awesome truck, I just don't know why he has to exagerate.

Definately possible, with the aluminum race block and Brodix heads. Gotta remember Nascar uses a 355 engine. Spending $10K or more on engine alone gets some good results. I didn't see the whole rear end, so I can't comment.

I don't think that power is possible with the setup he describes. Like you said, 750cfm just is not enough air to produce that kind of power from a small block.

600 RWH is about 750 at the crank. That would be about over 2 HP per cube... I don't think so, not with out a super/turbo charger. With all the money spent on that motor, why would somebody go with such a small displacement? 450 HP at the crank would be more likely. Either way, an Xtreme Energy XR294HR Cam with a 12.1:1 CR is not what I would call streetable. Awfully nice little truck though.

he doesn't say 600 to the ground....he says
Bolted behind this engine is a B&M Chevy TH-400 Transmission with tork master series convertor and a DTS Dana 60 rear end with a 1350 yoke.35-spline axles, and limited slip differential, planting about 600+HP to the ground it would be more like 600 horses being put to the ground by th400 dana 60...

the components he has are capable of that power but im doubting hes really making that power. that carb is too small. the heads will do it. but why cheap out with eagle crank and rods on a setup like that it doesnt make sense also the performer rpm isnt going to flow well enough to support that thing on the top end.he would need at least a victor junior and that would need a good bit or porting to handle it.its definately capable of 600hp but i doubt hes making 600hp and its definately not making 600 to the wheels. we built a 950hp small block was 408 inches where i used to work and yes thats on the motor no nitrous no supercharger no turbo. just a hell of a set of heads and a one of cam my boss designed. but that was fed by an 1150 dominator.

I saw this truck a couple of weeks ago. No doubt its an awesome truck. In addition the HP issue- doesn't $65,000 invested sound about $30,000 to high? Maybe I'm just young and don't know what I'm getting into with my project.

No ands, ifs, buts, or maybes... its a nice ride!!! 600rwhp? I don't know, but with $65k in a truck it should produce more than that!!! Because for my money, $ I'd be running a less radical BIG BLOCK and having longer lasting more streetable ride...
Maybe He just likes it that way... Good for him!!! He is obviously very happy with his truck, he is also very proud of his truck and everything he spent on it!!! So, I am very happy for him, just wish he'd tell me how I could free up a spare $65k for my toy... ![]() |

$10K on the motor - why cheap out after you by an aluminum block...might as well go with a billet crank and better rods. Spend $15k and do it the right way
the intake doesn't look like an RPM Air-gap as he states....It def. looks like a victor or supervictor (which were "Air-gap" anyway) You can't see the "individual runners" to each cylinder like you can with the RPM AirGap. the intake he has looks like a single plane to me (i.e. Victor, etc.) 600hp - definatly possible for a motor like that...probably needs a different cam and to be set up better. no 600 to the ground with all that crap hanging of the front of the motor (serp with P.S., alt, Waterpump, A/C) the Turbo 400 eats about 15-20 horse. almost as good as the guys who have blowers and A/C ??? ![]() and that thing probably has to stay over 3500RPM to even run right nice truck though

not to knock anyone, however it is a sweet looking clean ride from top to bottom. I wasn't aware that this site was to talk **** about others, if that were the case, this guy could talk down on most of us all day long with his ride. I feel these relpies appear mostly out of jealousy, i think we should just give people props where they are due and bite your tongue when there are issues or trends you disagree with.... I see things daily on here that have me either scratching my head or wondering why some one purchased every POS from the JC whitney book and slapped it in there truck... yet I say nothing because if thats what they like and want to shell out cash for then oh well...
thats my 2 cents... |
